The toss is scrapped...

... And it's up to you to decide what the chance to make the choice of bat-or-field is replaced by. Top of everyone's wish-list is something related to cricket skills. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Just chuck two balls in a lottery machine and let it randomly decide who bats first with no input at all from any of the players.

how about a throw at the stumps... from 3 different locations.. each team users 3 players rotating around the spots after each throw.. the team that requires less throws to throw them down 10 times wins. its also a nice fielding warm up for the players and something for the early spectators

Get the two players from either team with the best throw to stand on either boundary and how accurate the throw is will determine who wins the toss.

Some players are tossers. They win the toss too often.

I think first to 3 rock-paper-scissors.
A sumo bout could also be quite cool. Dan Vettori vs. Anil Kumble.

But seriously a small bowl off would be best if there was no toss.
