Which type of players are hardest to find ?

You really like his pole don't you? :naughty:

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

That's a bit circular though. Things that don't yet have an explanation are put as random.

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

Why couldn't he maintain a great standard for longer given that his workload was much lower?

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

Great post with a lot of great context added in. Which is why i said that I am surprised that this poll is closer than I thought it would be. I was expecting less votes for Marshall.

Nobody is asking you to change your views. They're just asking you to be consistent and not changing them selectively. Bending over backwards to put your favorites on top while going out of your way to crap over other players ignoring your otherwise previous views

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

I'll be honest, this poll is a lot closer than I thought it would be

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

I just described that whole point in my argument with trundler. Read it.

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

It is relevant. It's how you define the bands.
  9. smash84

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

Because there's practically nothing in bowling between McGrath and Hadlee
  10. smash84

    Only 3

I went with Bradman, Imran and Hadlee. Pretty good bowling attack and decent batting

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

I actually wasn't sure what you meant when you compared Marshall and Lara. I thought it was some non serious question tbh
  12. smash84

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

    I think both :p

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

CW consensus is wrong. But you and kyear2 are right.....

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

I think you're missing the main point. If two bowlers are equal in their bowling, would you prefer the one who is significantly better in the secondary skill? It's a simple yes or no question.

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

Are you asking for a perfect model?

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

You can think of it as assigning different weights to primary and secondary skills. It doesn't work as a straight addition with both disciplines getting equal weight, but once you weigh out the primary and secondary skills. It should make sense. Do I have an exact formula? No. But tinkering...

Because the margin of statistical significance is 5%. Anything beyond that doesn't matter :p It's totally up to you if you think Pollock and McGrath belong in the same tier. It definitely helps if you've seen them play.

I actually pick Warne in my team over Murali for his better batting ability. Bowling wise I find them extremely hard to separate
  19. smash84

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

Players are in the team for their primary discipline. Applying in the same tier isn't really arbitrary. It means you can do an apples to apples comparison.

    Marshall vs Hadlee (overall cricketers)

But the point is, if you're getting an all rounder who is as good as the bowler he's competing with, why will he not be a better cricketer. It is fine to use secondary skills as tie breakers when primary skills are pretty much equal. It doesn't hold when primary skills are not a close match.
