"They may not be able to buy a win against Australia but that hasn't stopped a supremely optimistic punter betting $10,000 that New Zealand will take out the Tri-Series cricket title."

If England can get a bonus point then NZ might have to win their next 2 games against England and 1 against Australia.

These days, I believe, it is generally accepted that usually you need a 100 from the first 15 to have any reasonable show of a good total. NZ has been nowhere near this in their last few games and show no signs of getting any better.
Dunno if I'd say that. 75 or better with 0-2 wickets down is still in general a pretty good launching pad for a good total, even a very good one. Always gonna depend on the conditions, of course.

Nice going from Freddie this arvo (all the English bowlers, really), and Anderson just looks a completely different bowler by now with the white ball in his hand from the innocuousness he served up in the tests. Reminding me of what he was like out here in the VB series of '02/03.

Bloody hell this is pitiful from NZ.

All those calls from the NZ fans saying "If we lose one game to England we should be embarassed" is really coming back to haunt them, even if they do some how win this game. England don't even have Pietersen.

Game's not quite over yet. If Oram, McCullum and Vettori could get to 180+, that might still be competitive against this England lineup.

I really don't think so, to be honest. England's batting problems in ODIs have either been the inability to score at a decent rate, or the loss of wickets in persuit of fixing the first problem. A total of 180 odd would be chased down with ease IMO - the likes of Collingwood and Bell suddenly become a million times more useful in such a chase.

The lowest score for a side batting first and using their full 50 overs in an ODI is 134, by the way. Bangladesh have managed that twice, once against England, once against Australia. If New Zealand carry on at this rate, they'll just miss that - they're on course for a heady 141
