Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Colts
Fardin Qayyumi Stadium

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

A dramatic spell of spin bowling by Tarick Weber lifted the Cricket Web Colts, then Shan Jasotharan smashed another class half-century to secure an impressive win over Cricket Web Black. Weber was incisive with 4 wickets on the third day, destroying the Black top order after they had reached a position of 106-0. Jasotharan then steadied a shaky chase with typically explosive hitting.

Both teams fought hard in the first innings. Daniel Smith played as fiercely as any for the sake of his team, but fell short of his hundred at 90. Even so he played the definitive innings of a score of 285 all out, batting first on a good pitch. The final 6 wickets tumbled for 24 runs, largely due to Greg Thomas and Kyle Wright posting excellent comeback spells. The Colts response looked to be a grand one when the openers added 104 for the first wicket. And at 197-2, there were clearly some troubles on the mind of Smith. He received a boost in the person of Kexing Su, who took the first 5-wicket haul of his first-class career. If not for his unsung effort, the Colts lead would surely have been far greater than its eventual 57 runs. By the same measure, Nick Hancock played a big role for the Colts with 31 not out.

The fighting spirit continued well into the second innings. Smith and Arnold lived a charmed life in the initial stages, but grew in confidence with time in the middle. Wright turned to spin, a move that quickly turned a masterstroke. Weber first dismissed Smith, top-edging a paddle sweep to present Mark Hopgood with a simple chance at short fine leg. Hancock followed with the wicket of Armstrong, caught at slip, and Weber went on to outclass Arnold, Chaulk and McMeekin in the space of 3 overs. CW Black slumped to 135-5 at the demise of McMeekin, chipping softly to short midwicket, and madness ensued in the run out of Zac Gelman 13 runs later. It would have been a worse debacle had Blake Donald not stood up with a fiery 37, but as things unfolded, CW Black collapsed to 191 all out.

A target of 135 may have seemed a formality for a confident Colts team, but CW Black has never been a team to go down quietly. Kexing Su stayed true to his match form and bowled with great heart to take 3 early wickets. Among the bunch was the prolific Simon Fitzsimmons, lbw for a second-ball duck. CW Colts looked lost at 17-3 and the stage was set for another Jasotharan special. Armstrong missed an easy chance to run him out after he'd faced 30 balls, but by then he'd scored 37 runs. Not to be forgotten in the big-hitting heroics, Malthus contributed a steady 32 until he was out at 80-4. After lunch Will Kerr nicked Richards to the lone slip for 11, but only 34 runs were needed at that stage.

On another day the closing overs may have spawned more drama, but both Jasotharan and Wilson were keen on ending the game quickly with a streak of arrogance. Their partnership of 31 runs lasted 5.4 overs. Wilson chipped down to meet Richards and loft the ball straight for the winning boundary. The result leaves the Colts on top of the standings in both forms of the game and keeps Black without a win to date this season.

Cricket Web Green v Cricket Web Blue
PDV Dome

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Experience and youth blended supremely as two players making their season debut lit up the PDV Dome and excited the crowd in an incredible victory for Cricket Web Blue over Cricket Web Green. First Rob Bowen fashioned an outstanding ton in his first first-class innings, then Travis Demeza announced his return from suspension with a devastating spell of quick bowling. From a dominant position, the Greens succumbed to defeat by 9 wickets.

Garven would have been pleased by his teams progress to 367 after being inserted by Sean Fuller. The decision at the toss seemed the right one when CW Green were 114-4, then 162-5 at the fall of Garven. Hogarth, Cunningham and the boisterous Xavier Rose had other opinions and a need to express them with boundaries. The trio hit 21 fours and a six between them, and each scored a half-century in reviving Green fortunes. Rose looked set for his maiden first-class hundred, then prodded at Fuller on 80, delaying an elusive dream for another moment. Fuller was the pick of the seamers with 3 wickets, though Rhys Williams was by far the best of the bowlers, supplying economy and penetration with 2-38.

Cunningham sharpened the blow of CW Green's revival by taking the early wickets of Young and Mamesh. Cameron added Jack Ullungura, on debut, for 23 to leave the Blues at 52-3. Fuller and Bowen were energized by the prospect of the challenge. One, an experienced allrounder and captain, and the other, a rookie playing only his second game for CW Blue. Fuller was steady in his approach to 52, and though Bowen only hit boundaries, his was an energetic innings. It was more of a Hussey-like showing than of Gilchrist. Bowen scored 134 from 118 with 7 fours. At his side for the second half of his innings was Ben Wilshere, re-establishing himself as a first-class force with 84. Once again, however, he missed a hundred.

At 350 all out, CW Blue felt they were well in the game. It was enough to put fire in the belly of Demeza, and the eruption that followed was a sight that had been sorely missed by the Blue fans that packed the Dome. Malone, Lezama and Scott fell in quick succession, then young quickie May-Quinlan chipped in with the wicket of Corrin. Garven looked promising for the measure of 32, then insanely holed out to deep midwicket off Williams. Each of Hogarth, Cunningham and Rose threatened to take hold of the game once more, but could not get past the reinvigorated Blue seam attack. CW Green were 140 all out in less than 34 overs, setting up a modest target of 158 for the home team.

Too often CW Blue make easy games a chore to complete, and this case may have been no different had the Greens held chances off Young and Ullungura. As it was, both batsmen looked at ease through most of their innings and carried CW Blue to a 9-wicket win. In the process, Ullungura notched a maiden half-century and finally looked the part in a Blue cap.

Strong win from the Colts there, Kyle is bound to be happy with that one. Some good performances all round, bat and ball standing up. Great stuff for us.

Props to Smith and Su in order though, both played very well.

Liam, check your emails. You really do need to announce that new schedule ASAP for the captains to know what sides to be picking. I don't know if it's official or not yet.

Jasotharan's scores so far: 90 (84), 17* (10), 119 (81), 99 (105), 64 (51), 61* (66).

450 @ 112.50, strike rate 113.35

...almost half way to 1,000 runs after just three games. Absolutely incredible form.

Another great win for the Colts, again with all players chipping in, which is great. A lot of batsmen (and woman!) got starts and it was a shame to not see triple figures from any of them, but another good team effort all the same.

Gutted to lose. Excellent fighting performances from Smith and Su though. Consistency is probably something thats needs to improve with both bat and ball.

It's official. He's said it in emails. He just hasn't announced it, and tbf you have pasted it across everywhere, so everyone should know it has been changed.

So, to every captain: Check this schedule out please

Disappointed with my bowling. Also, with not making a century. Gave the match away at the end there with dropped catches and poor batting.

We were at least competitive for most of the match but we let ourselves down in the second innings. Some great performances from Smith and Su though, so hopefully we aren't too far away from a win.

Very happy with that win. A little closer than I would have liked, but really can't complain about that performance. We only allowed them one major partnership for the game which was vital in the win and all the batsmen contirubted in the first innings, but as Towns said someone should have gone on to triple figures.

Fine games from Weber & 'Jaso', 'Jaso' in particular is in stunning form.

Great team performance there. Bowen, Demeza, Wilshere and a couple of others had great matches. We really dominated the whole game aside from the period where Green's tail got on top late on day 1.
