Neither do the deathtraps that deteriorated after two days and saw teams being bowled out for less than 80 too often for comfort. These pitches are pretty much like those you see in the England county game and in Australia these days.
A pitch with a bit in it for bowlers and batsmen alike would be nice :p

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Red
CW Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Batting was never easy at the CW Oval, but Kenny Dobson played an extraordinary innings to prove the clear difference between Cricket Web Red and Cricket Web Colts in a 58-run win for the home team. On a pitch where the ball seamed about and 9 of 22 batsmen were dismissed for single figure scores, Dobson practically batted through the innings to score 111 not out.

Dobson came to the crease at the dismissal of Luff, caught at square leg in the second over of the game. He was careful and steady as wickets tumbled around him. Bochat took the two early wickets, but Jack McNamara was again a titan in the middle overs, taking 4 for 40 to continue his extremely impressive run of form. Dauth and Kearsley fell to impatient shots for 41 and 17 respectively, but Dobson was the supreme measure of concentration and patience. While he attacked on occasion, most notably in launching Wright for a straight six, he took 90 balls to get to fifty, cracking Weber past point to do so.

As the innings slipped away at the fingers of McNamara, Dobson continued to play with care. In facing 116 balls he scored only 67 runs. But urgency set in when Clapham was bowled by Bochat for 8. Hancock could have ended his innings with a chance at midwicket, and Dobson took his life to heart, scoring a total of 44 runs from his final 30 balls. Bochat went for 17 from his last two overs, but still ended with decent figures of 3 for 51. Kennett joined into the fun in banging Wright over long-on for a six in a 13-run 48th over. Dobson scored three boundaries off the next 4 balls he faced. In all and in getting to 236-9, CW Red scored 64 runs from the final 8 overs of the innings, losing 2 wickets in the process.

The Colts trotted away with 21 runs in the first 4 overs of their chase. Things quickly slid downhill from there, however, as Kennett and Watt were incisive with the new ball. Hopgood, Towns and Jasotharan were out in a space of 5 balls, leaving the score at 28-3 after 7.1 overs. There was no recovery, for all the efforts of Butler, Wilson, and at the end, Bochat. Kingsley Clapham made a grand return to the red kit, bowling a searching spell with economy and two wickets. Kennett and Watt shared 5 wickets, and in total the seamers accounted for 8 of the wickets to fall. The other two fell to Sean Bennett, who brought himself on late in the game after Bochat went after Raghav. First the Red captain speared a yorker length ball to bowl Wilson for 30, then McNamara tried to clear midwicket with his first ball, and was instead caught in the deep by Robbins. All out for 178, the Colts will rue the lack of a backbone to their innings, as was supplied by Dobson to that of CW Red.

Cricket Web Red 236-9 (50 overs)
GKK Dobson 111* [146], RJ Dauth 41 [50]
JP McNamara 4-40 [10], T Bochat 3-51 [10]

Cricket Web Colts 178 all out (46.2 overs)
CR Butler 37 [71], MW Wilson 30 [60], T Bochat 29 [22]
DM Kennett 3-39 [10], SA Bennett 2-8 [2], KR Clapham 2-28 [8]

Cricket Web Red won by 58 runs.
Man of the Match: GKK Dobson

Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Blue
PDV Dome

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Blue were stunned and undone by Neil Pickup in front of their home crowd, and Cricket Web Black issued a 7-wicket thrashing with 13 overs left to their advantage. The Blues did well to get to the total - Dunn and Demeza put on 42 for the final wicket - but were totally outclassed by a revitalized Black outfit.

Pickup spun through a long batting lineup with 3 for 33 from his 10 overs. CW Blue collapsed from 67-1 to 90-5, then 135-8. Matt Smith and Dunn made an unlikely pairing in a partnership of 34 for the 9th wicket, but that was hardly as shocking as the 10th-wicket stand. The situation made it improbable, but that it involved two of the worst batsmen in Dev League history made it unbelievable. Dunn reached by far his highest List-A score of 39 not out, while Demeza scored 23 unbeaten. They batted the final 8.1 overs of the innings and finished strongly with 13 off the last one, bowled by Gelman. Dunn played the pick of the shots, slog sweeping the seamer over the boundary at square leg.

Much against the run of play to that point, CW Black looked totally unbothered by the pitch. Indeed, they revealed the surface as an exceptional one for batting against all the Blue bowlers. Demeza was punished early on, surrendering 40 from his first 5 overs, and CW Black scored 93 from 19 overs before they lost a wicket. Markus was bowled by Demeza for 47 to give CW Blue some hope. At the other end Dunn returned for a second spell after giving only 12 from his first 6 overs. His fortunes changed immediately. His first over back cost 16 runs, and in all his last 4 went for 30 runs. The wicket of Cloete was little consolation. CW Black never relinquished their control.

James Stedman scored 81 from 100 balls, missing out of a century with a lazy shot against Matt Smith. Instead it was Ash Chaulk (41 not out) and Gerard Armstrong (15 not out) who saw the game to completion.

Cricket Web Blue 211-9 (50 overs)
RG Dunn 39* [48], PE Young 27 [37], MW de Silva 24 [34]
NS Pickup 3-33 [10], ZE Gelman 2-50 [10]

Cricket Web Black 212-3 (37 overs)
JE Stedman 81 [100], I Markus 47 [56], AP Chaulk 41* [39]
MJ Smith 1-34 [8]

Cricket Web Black won by 7 wickets.

Nice couple of games there. Some real standout performances from Arnold, Smith, Pickup, Borcich and Markus. Let's keep it going!

BARNES OUT
Classy effort in both games there, showing why we were among the favourites at the start of the season now. On a team note it's good to see everyone contributing in both forms, and most players showing why they're starting games. Patrick and Gelman the only ones under any real pressure so far in the longer form, though it'd be good to see Markus and Cloete knock a few scores up.

On a personal note, wow. Finally got one and it feels pretty good. Hope to see a few more throughout the later parts of the season. Bore-stich gunning it.

Yeah, might need to rest me for a game or two and look at other options and combinations.

Thrashing Blues is as good as it gets really. Awesome performances from Pickup and Stedman.
Seeing you get hit for 13 off the last over made up slightly for losing the game. :p

EDIT: *thankful he was run out*
