International Regular
Our top and middle order batsman continue to struggle with consistency, there were definately runs on offer on that pitch. At least we were able to make inroads through the Black batting list on regular occasions in the field but we never had enough runs in the bank.

Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Red
CW Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Sparkling cameos by Kev Gough and Neil Pickup made the difference for Cricket Web Black, as they beat Cricket Web Red by 22 runs. After the CW Black middle order threatened to throw away a commanding position, Gough and Pickup slogged efficiently alongside the more patient Zac Gelman, to post a competitive and ultimately winning score of 247-9.

In damp conditions and with a sluggish outfield, Mørk preferred to surrender first strike to the Blacks. Kennett and Watt fetched him the early wickets of Markus and Cloete, but James Stedman and Ash Chaulk had the score rollicking along to 130-2 after 23 overs. With the start of the 24th, however, Stedman picked out Clapham at long-off, trying to launch the spin of Bennett out of the ground. In the following over Kenny Dobson executed a stunning catch at backward point to dismiss Chaulk. When Armstrong and Dan Smith looked to rebuild the scoring slowed dramatically, then both were out in consecutive overs. CW Black were struggling at 166-6 and even more so when Dave Richards was out 4 runs later.

Initially Gelman and Gough pushed the impressive pairing of Bennett and Reddlapalli for singles to add 16 from 31 balls. The Cricket Web XI fast bowler then looked to increase the tempo. He hit a cleanly-struck straight six off Watt, but missed a slower ball next up and was lbw for 22. Pickup settled quickly, and latched onto the second ball he faced - a cover drive off Kennett for four. Upping the ante further, he clubbed Watt over cow corner and out of the ground. In sealing off the 49th over, Pickup pulled Reddlapalli straight down the ground for another thumping four. Clapham bowled a good final over, allowing just 2 runs from the first 4 balls and having Gelman caught at midwicket. But Nath Patrick added the final insult to injury, flashing a full delivery over point and into the boundary. In the innings, Bennett and Reddlapalli were the clear picks for CW Red, sharing 18 overs for 4-64.

In turn and now in dramatic form, Patrick charged in at the CW Red openers. First he reared a ball up at Luff, only to see the catch dropped by Stedman at second slip. A fine first over allowed one run off the bat, with the ball zipping past the edge on three occasions. Gough took over and swung the ball away from Bennett to have him caught behind for 3. The Reds struggled to get the new ball away. Patrick's opening spell of 7-1-19-0 was superb, though Gough was also outstanding with 4-0-15-1.

Against spin, the Reds sought to make their charge. Dobson challenged Pickup with a boundary and a slog-swept six in his opening 12-run over. In his following over, Pickup dropped a return catch of Luff and surrendered a further 8 runs. Gough returned and immediately impacted by dismissing Dobson for 38. He then strengthened his impact by trapping Dauth in front on the stumps an over later. Luff was dropped a third time on 48 - Patrick the guilty party - and pulled a noball from Richards into the midwicket stands to reach his fifty. With the return of Pickup, Luff collected two more boundaries. The legspinner's first 4 overs cost a wicketless 39 runs.

After 38 overs the game was set up nicely by Luff and Kearsley. CW Red stood at 165-3, needing 93 runs from the final 72 balls with 7 wickets intact. They started that final stretch well, dismantling Richards' previously good figures with 13 runs from his final over. And in a bold move, Smith recalled Pickup to replace Richards. Kearsley obliged the tactic by lofting to long-on, out for 41. Luff, on 95, then drove firmly at short cover and was finally caught - the captain the example. A ball later, Pickup spun past the push of Reddlapalli and Chaulk snapped off the bails. Mørk survived the hattrick delivery, but faced a huge challenge to guide through with 53 needed from 45.

CW Red never lacked spirit, even in the desperate closing overs. Marc Robbins acquitted himself as a quality finisher, pulling Patrick for a flat six. To that point Gough had bowled 8-0-19-3 and upon his recall, and he was to laugh last and loudest. A stunning series of slower balls and yorkers hurried the end. Gough collected a further 3 wickets in his final two overs, ending with career-best figures of 6 for 25. Patrick was then rewarded for his outstanding bowling, taking the final wicket in a total of 225.

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Green
CWBCC Stadium

Scorecard
No Ball by Ball, unfortunately.

A tremendous hundred from Pooja Bharat was outdone by the sparkling batting of the Cricket Web Green top order, as Cricket Web Colts continued their sudden and dramatic slide with another defeat.

Bharat played the innings of her life - 107 not out from 100 balls, with 10 fours and 2 sixes - carrying the Colts to a very competitive 257-5. With Butler (50), some 140 runs were added for the fourth wicket after the Colts looked uncertain at 80-3. The strokeplay of Bharat was breathtaking, and her dominance in the innings unquestionable. No one else even approached her rate of scoring, and her final 50 runs cost 31 balls. Xavier Rose stood out with the ball for Cricket Web Green in taking 3 for 48.

But against a depleted Colts seam attack, the Greens raced away toward the target. None of the bowlers looked to have any confidence, until Jack McNamara was called into the attack to deliver another testing, if wicketless, spell. Tarick Weber got the wicket of Garven for 39, livening up the game a bit at 104-1, but it only allowed Nick Scott to continue to express his present run of good form. He eased into double figures from 5 balls, then lost Dubb-Lynch for another well-played half-century since his return from injury. Anthony Lezama joined Scott and the batting got even easier in his time at the crease. At no time did either batsman looked troubled.

For all the class of his 75 not out - 4 fours, a six, 85 balls - Scott was outshone by Lezama. The wicketkeeper-batsman played his finest one-day innings, commanding the gaps in the field on his way to 73 from 65 balls. The winning partnership added 140 runs in an 8-wicket result. All the Colts seamers were harshly dealt with, but captain Kyle Wright in particular was torn apart. His 6.5 overs cost 54 runs; his final 5 balls costing 12. Lezama aptly ended the game with a six over the bowler's head.
