:) Great win fellas. Well batted again from Luffy, whilst Watt & Robbins were great with the ball. My first 4-fer as well :D although it was also my most expensive spell, but i'll take 4-fer most days.

Hrm, 1-31 from 6. Needed at least another wicket to go with going at 6 an over. Not the best.

Fuller, leading wicket taker taken to the cleaners :( Well bowled by Smith and Dunn, but we never showed up with the bat for the chase. Sitting in a -very- bad place, now.

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Red
CW Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

A calm and collected approach by Daniel Towns guided Cricket Web Colts to a victory target of 252, as a low-scoring affair at the CW Oval resulted in a 6-wicket defeat for the home team. Towns scored 74 from 236 balls, dropped once on 59, and was the anchor of a potentially difficult chase on a pitch with inconsistent bounce.

It was a professional win for a Colts outfit desperate to recover from a dismal second quarter showing. The effort was triggered at the toss, when under cloud cover, the Colts elected to bowl first. The CW Oval, notorious for its early seam movement, looked a tricky proposition from the start. Jasotharan ranged to his left and floored a chance off the bat of Luff in the second over of the game. The opener got to 17, then was bowled through the gate. The procession of Red batsmen that followed left captain Mørk shaking his head as he walked in at lunch on 41, his team struggling at 84-4. The second session was no more pleasant an experience. Mørk was among three wickets to fall in the first half-hour after resumption.

He topscored with a gritty 47, but Sean Bennett (24) and David Kennett (10 not out) were also very much instrumental in the CW Red score of 147 all out. It was a pleasant return for Nick Hancock, who took 4 wickets in what continues to be his best bowling season to date.

The response from the CW Red seamers was a tale of two bursts. Kennett removed the potential annoyance of Malthus for 3, but Towns and Fitzsimmons resisted with a partnership of 100 for the second wicket. But from the breakthrough of Bennett, finding the thin edge of Towns' cut shot, the last 8 wickets tumbled for 90 runs. Chris Butler looked to be grafting his way back into form with 20 from 75 balls, but few others showed the patience needed on such a pitch. The visitors were all out for an even 200, but a lead of 53 looked precious in the circumstances.

There was more determination from the Reds the second time around. Even so, only Mørk suggested any permanence at the crease. Facing 400 balls, he hit 11 fours in a chancy innings of 109. Luff, Sharma and Dauth threatened form, and once again Bennett was purposeful with a tough 23, but CW Red could not build on their captain's success. All out for 304, they set the Colts 252 to win.

The total would have been far more difficult to attain, had Luff clutched on to a regulation slip chance of Fitzsimmons in the opening over. The ensuing opening stand was worth 69 runs, of which Fitzsimmons scored 48. Towns was again patient initially, seeing his team to lunch at 89-1. Malthus did all the hard work to score 29, but pushed softly back to Robbins after lunch. As Butler flashed at a Bennett long-hop, he was caught at point and the Reds were back in contention - Colts 146-3. Soon after, Towns eased Dwyer through the covers off the back foot, raising a deserved half-century. Still, the Reds would have hoped to prey on the recent poor form of Shan Jasotharan.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has been struggling with the ball outside his offstump of late, but on this occasion he rose to the challenge. At stumps he had 39 from 37 balls, and at the other end Towns was on 59, dropped off the final delivery of the day. On day four the Colts started with excellent strike rotation, scoring 19 singles in 8 overs before the first boundary was struck by Towns. Raghav snuck through to bowl Jasotharan off the inside edge for 60, but by then only 12 were needed to finalize the result. And Kerr obliged in scoring 11 of them from 15 balls faced.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Black
Pickford Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

In the previous two matchups between Cricket Web Black and Cricket Web Blue this season, thrilling cricket has been the spectacle. The last time these two teams played, the Blacks returned from nearly following-on to win by 6 wickets. But the last time they played at the Pickford Reserve, it was the Blues who fought valiently and managed to attain a drawn result against the worst of odds.

On this occasion the game shaped up to be another epic. After Camps inserted CW Black in wet and typically depressing conditions on day one, he hoped to have made sufficient inroads to justify the decision by day's end. And by the time Ash Chaulk feathered Collins through to Crampton, the score was 119-4, and the Blues firmly on top. Andrew Cloete had struggled all season, but fate would have it that he would shine in this moment, and more so against his old club. Cloete was typically severe off the back foot in an innings of 135. And he was not without company. Ian Markus played almost chancelessly for 131. The fifth wicket partnership reached the heights of 160 runs, and even after Cloete was dismissed by Demeza, the momentum was firmly with the Blacks.

Tenacious innings from Gelman and Richards down the order garnished a spirited revival, that eventually finished on 451 all out. Collins bowled an incredible 43 overs in the innings for his figures of 4-97. Demeza also finished with 4 wickets, but for a far greater cost.

With the rain hastening away, the conditions, aside from a wet outfield, appeared to be perfect for batting. But Thamba Mamesh has not looked certain all season, and even after he was dropped by the bowler Patrick first up, he never suggested permanence. Another flashy innings of 26 was ended abruptly by Gelman, lbw. All of the Blue top order reached double figures, but Mamesh was the top score of that top six. No genuine initiative was evident until Rob Bowen and Liam Camps came together at 144-6. There seemed no way that CW Blue would avoid the follow-on. Still, the captain and the rookie restored the faith with a very impressive partnership of 105. Particularly outstanding was Bowen, who scored his 80 from 71 balls, then he pulled over the top of a Markus offbreak and was trapped in front of the stumps.

Markus followed up by bowling Collins for a duck, but Camps found adequate support from May-Quinlan and Demeza. Facing 33 balls, Demeza's duck was of far greater use than his typically record-breaking contributions of naught. Camps scored 89 when Demeza finally gave in, caught at slip off Neil Pickup. CW Blue had not only avoided the follow-on, but reduced the CW Black lead to 137, scoring 314 all out.

The weather left CW Black with only 44 overs on the fourth day to press on to a declaration-worthy total. Playing positively, they scored 160-3 by stumps. On the fifth day they batted on, with the lead not large enough to defend on such a good batting surface. Those plans were quickly foiled, however, and rain brought a declaration from Smith. The target was then 312 and 78 overs remained in the match.

Such an attainable target tempted the Blues early on, and they went for it with Mamesh playing positively for his 41. The opening partnership of 83 suggested a platform for attack, but when Young was caught at slip for 51 the Blues went to tea at 119-2. From the final 41.2 overs, CW Blue needed an unlikely 193 runs. And as Crampton was out to Borcich soon into the final session, it looked increasingly likely that CW Black would take the 7 wickets needed. It was then that the Blues looked to abandon their suggestions of a chase, instead settling for a grind to the end. The final 40 overs featured intense cricket between two intense rivals. But there was no winner on this day, though the CW Blue camp were thrilled when Dinu DeSilva and Robert Cribb walked off the field with a drawn result secured.
