Australia U/19 in Pakistan

Not great results so far - although the main point would be for them to get the experience of touring somewhere like Pakistan. Would be interested to see the results if the same Pakistani U19 team toured here.
I can guarantee you it would be a lot closer...in fact, Pakistan did tour Australia eralier this year and pushed the Aussies pretty hard...Australia eventually prevailed 3-2 in the end.

India and Pakistan regularly defeat Australia at u-19 level.
At that age level, the Indian and Pakistani kids have played a lot more competitive cricket and thus their beating Australia is not really a great surprise.
Also, basic skill levels come into it a lot more at u-19 level than things like fitness, strategy etc. Look at the u-19 WC last year....the Pakistani and Indian guys swung the ball a lot more than the Aussie attack of (Ritchard, Cutting, Henriques) were able to do.

I have always maintained that at grass roots level, Pakistan and India can more than match the pool of raw talent that Australia has.
Where Australia really pulls away is with their first class structure....Australian kids hone their skills in a tough domestic comp and the level and organisation of coaching available to them as they develop their careers as professional cricketers is of greater quality than what subcontinental kids have.
Add to the fact that CA is exteremly well organised whereas subcontinental kids have to cope with the endemic corruption in the likes of the PCB and the BCCI.

Australia's system is far sup[erior to everyone else's - pure and simple and they reap the consequent rewards.
Yeah good post, it must be all the more frustrating for Indian/Pakistan fans that the talent is there but not being translated at the highest level. And it's not like money is an issue either.

Yeah, agree with this. Tbh it would be surprising if India, with a population in excess of 1 billion, and Pakistan with a population well over 200 million, and their shared love of cricket as the national sport, didn't produce similar amounts, if not more, raw talent than Australia with its population of 21 million. As you go on to say, the difference is in the development of that raw talent.

Actually minor point but that waste of time called cricket is NOT the national sport of
Pakistan or India. It is actually field hockey a sport in which between them Pakistan and India have won eleven Olympic gold medals and five world cups.
Unfortunately cricket, a sport in which bothe teams have never been world champions is doted on far more than hockey, a sport that both nations have excelled at.

Meh, if its the sport that the majority of people in a country either participate in or identify as the sport they're most interested in, its the national sport IMO.

Field Hockey is the major sport in India and Pakistan in terms of registered participation, similar to Football in Australia. But those number don't count how many people play the sport in th streets of India or Pakistan, just in registered competitions.

itduzz, how many more times do you have to be asked to use existing threads? 39 posts and 43 threads made, I don't even know how that is possible (well I do, but anyways).

I forsee the chop coming down heavily on the aussie side, phillip hughes, michael hill, steve smith and james pattinson definites for the side.
Batting and bowling has been very threadbare.

There is no way in hell that field hockey is close in terms of popularity to cricket. None. Can't speak regarding Pakistan, but in India at least.

I hope Bangladesh U/19 will be able to put up better performances in their tour of Pakistan next month. They will play two four day matches and three one dayers over there.

The Bangladeshi team includes Tamim Iqbal and three other players (Marshall Ayub, Dollar Mahmud, and Suhrawardi Shuvo) who have played in 2006 U/19 world cup.
