Disappointing to lose that one. We had given ourselves a chance with an excellent 2nd innings batting effort. But, for once, our bowlers let us down.
On a personal note, it's good to be back in the wickets, but would have much preferred a win.

Inspired and revitalized, Martyn Corrin tripled his season tally of wickets with a haul of 4 and contributed greatly to a crushing win for Cricket Web Green over Masters XI. Corrin varied his pace and flight well on a slow pitch and dealt harshly for the middle order of the visiting side. He took 4 for 33 and consolidated the early work done by Xavier Rose and Bryce Cunningham with the new ball. Masters XI received a late push from the tail, but managed only 187 when they lost their last wicket.
The confidence from a good showing in the field then quickly manifested itself with the bat. Both openers wasted no time in getting after the fast bowlers, and they dealt particularly harshly with Shane Bond. His first 3 overs cost 22 runs and, for a change, he went wicketless. A quickfire partnership of 60 was broken by Thomas Odoyo in the 9th over. Corrin dragged on a wide delivery in Odoyo's next over, gone for 7, but Andrew Garven (37) played the experienced level head in support of Rob Malone. The young opening batsman accelerated to a half-century from 64 balls, then ticked along at a run-a-ball with some enterprising attacking batting. Lance Klusener took one more wicket to take some pride for the Masters XI camp, but Darren Dubb-Lynch kept his cool for 11 and kept Malone company at the end.

A stunningly-paced innings by Cricket Web Blue was the foundation for a crushing 90-run win over fellow title contenders, Cricket Web Colts. The Blues scored 122 runs runs from the last 84 balls of the innings and launched from a solid platform to a highly competitive score. In turn the Colts were not as enterprising, and could not recover from a top order collapse to pose a serious challenge to the target.
Liam Camps (18) and Dinu DeSilva (0) were victims of the new ball and gave way to the experienced pairing of Sean Fuller and Pete Young in the middle overs. Initially the duo rotated the strike and occasionally put away loose deliveries, but good work, by Weber in particular, kept the home team in check. Weber almost reaped the rewards of his control when he had Young caught for 37, but a noball denied him the celebration. Less than 6 overs later he joined Fuller with a half-century. The batsmen approached the closing overs and set their minds on explosive acceleration. Fuller clattered a wide ball from Pimpkins behind point for four and raised a century from 118 balls. In the next over he scored 13 from 4 balls faced and Dunn surrendered 17 in all. Wright desperately sought to tap the run rate, but none of his bowling changes worked. Some 27 runs were scored by CW Blue off the next two overs, and then Spinks and Wright himself returned to close out the innings. They shared the only joy of the tail end of the innings and allowed only 15 from the last 3 overs, largely through the success of 3 wickets. Still the Blues finished on 278-5 and set a tall task in conditions still not perfectly suited for batting.
The top order concerns continued for the Colts. Will Kerr (0) lasted only one delivery and Dan Rai (7) lasted 9 to leave the score at 13-2. The collapse forced a careful rebuilding process rather than the attacking strokeplay needed to keep up with the demands of the chase. And when Oliver Dunbar entered the attack, considerable pressure had already been created. He benefited with the wicket of Chris Butler for 23, flashing outside offstump, and then helped run out Towns (5) when a bad call left him dead on arrival. The score was then 71-5 at the fall of Fjermestad (4) and two explosive batsmen, in Mike Wilson and Andy Pimpkins were asked to play with care.
Wilson never looked settled in the role and as the required rate piled up he looked to take matters into his own hands. But when he failed to get ahold of the ball with obvious intent, it was caught easily by Dunbar at long-on. Weber entered and tried to push on a bit, but on 24 he miscued his attempt to clear the rope and provided Popat with his first wicket. The game was practically over at 147-7, but the visiting crowd could celebrate a maiden fifty from Pimpkins before the result was sealed.

Dan Smith and Cricket Web Black put an epic beatdown on the struggling Cricket Web Red at Picford Reserve. Smith hardly lamented his lack of a Test callup and instead filled his boots during an innings of 115. The Black captain got a rare opportunity to play a long innings when his highly-rated top order slumped to 25-2. He was not overawed and soon caught up with Ash Chaulk with delightful footwork and timing on the menu along the way.
Chaulk reached 50 first, from 56 balls, but Smith rattled consecutive boundaries off Clapham to reach his own milestone from 7 balls less. He was well into stride and quickly overtook his partner and raced toward his ton. It was the surprising arm of Aseem Sharma, in a move of desperation, that dealt for Chaulk in the end. The Black wicketkeeper-batsman shoveled a simple catch to short midwicket. The wicket did not slow the momentum of the Blacks, and even as Sharma continued to benefit from their attempted slogs, the home side scored 156 from the final 18 overs. Surprisingly Sharma bowled his full allotment of overs and collected 5 wickets- comfortably his best figures. Alex Blackman clubbed 61 from 42 balls until he was out immediately after his captain in the 43rd over. Down the stretch the lower order pushed on, and at the very end Kev Gough consolidated the score with 2 fours and a massive six.
Much of the traveling Red fans had left by the time their team started the reply. When they took guard they needed almost 7 per over and a wicket-maiden was nearly the worst possible start. Luff returned to the pavilion for a duck and Rob Dauth (7) followed soon after. Gough then rounded off his devastating first spell with the wicket of Sharma for 18. A score of 57-3 became 73-6 and a truly humiliating defeat looked on the cards. Sean Bennett scored 52 to recover a bit of pride and pushed the score past 200, but the deficit was still a significant 140 runs when he ran out of partners.
