In a five-day marathon, Cricket Web Colts eventually came up trumps, as Tarick Weber stood up with a ten-wicket-haul to turn the tables in the hosts' favour despite a remarkable debut hundred from Sam Morris.
Colts struggled after choosing to bat first, with Rai dragging on Maina after smashing Sriram for a six and a four in the previous over. After three wickets fell in the first ninety minutes, Cole dropped twice before Stephen Young finally held him on eleven, Towns and Kerr returned after lunch with a more cautious approach. The first three overs of the session yielded 13 runs; after that, 46 came off the next 29.
Less swing and more spinners provided opportunities for runs during the evening, though both Kerr and Towns were caught at the wicket. Pimpkins and Weber provided some entertaining batting towards the end of the day, however, making 51 together for the seventh wicket.
Weber and Wright were dismissed within three balls of the second day's play, yet stubborn stuff from Bochat and Spinks carried Colts to 346 - helped by the umpires. Pimpkins was left stranded, having made 59.
Blue looked to have come reasonably well out of the morning, despite Spinks' two incisions in the eleventh over, as they lunched on 45 for two, and Fuller completed an unfamiliar job well as he smashed Bochat for sixteen in three balls to get within an inch of the fifty. Yet, Tarick Weber made his first mark on the match when he took three wickets in eight balls and removed the entire middle order, continuing an excellent season. Kyle Wright then trapped Fuller lbw for a vital wicket, and Blue were reeling at 149 for six.
However, a thin squad had forced the Blues to put Sam Morris in at eight. The youngster, making his debut in FC cricket, saw eight balls out to tea, allowing Blue to regroup exceptionally. Wicketkeeper Alex Crampton also enjoyed a fine innings, though he was given a reprieve by the Colts' keeper on fifty; by the end of the day the pair had added 107, and Blue resumed the third day with some hope.
More was to come. The previous evening had a rearguard taste about it - now, against the new ball, Blue attacked with ease. Crampton was perhaps the most vigorous, and certainly the most aesthetically pleasing, but few could fail to be enticed by the debutant, whose only minor blips were a soft edge to Rai on 65 and a failure to shut home the century before lunch.
One would think a debutant stuck on 98 would have plenty of time to brood over the impending consequences. Indeed, Morris did not look entirely assured as he neared the milestone, but a gentle dab off Wright in the 109th over did the job. He showed some ineptitude of batting with the tail - after his hundred, Blue lost four wickets for 20 runs, of which only six were scored by Morris - but remained with 110 not out, while Weber could pad his figures with the wickets of Sriram and Maina.
The enthralling contest continued with a massive opening partnership. Rai and Fitzsimmons needed quick runs if the contest were to stay alive, and largely provided, with Rai reaching the fifty first before being caught by Sriram. Fitzsimmons cut loose hugely after reaching his milestone, making 30 more off 45 before the close of play, where Colts had an effective lead of 86 runs.
More aggressive cricket followed on the fourth day. Colts were never entirely assured, but Fitzsimmons' 184 buoyed them to a heavy total, though there were always plenty of chances on offer as Colts sought to get a target in quick time. Maina was the pick of the bowlers, but Fuller had a decent grasp of whittling out the tail, as Blue avoided the first innings debacle and reduced Colts from 321 for three to their all out score of 398 by tea.
Blue needed 332 runs and had four sessions in which to do so. They started well enough, Young and Fuller littering fours with ease, and though Fuller went out to an injudicious stroke and Cribb was bowled cheaply, Blue fancied their chances after the younger Young had completed his fifty before stumps, as they closed on 129 for two.
However, chasing on a fifth-day wicket is never easy. Weber had bowled seven overs without much reward on the fourth day - his eighth ball was smashed for six by Young, but the twelfth trapped Camps lbw, resulting in a minor setback. Weber seemed the only one likely to provide consistent threat - Spinks taken out after James Wilson took him for three fours in an over - yet it was Bochat who provided the breakthrough when Young, the danger man, was caught by Fitzsimmons for 92.
Hancock and Bochat each had a catch dropped with only 121 required, and Blue looked to be in reasonable control thanks to Wilson's controlled aggression. However, with fifteen minutes to lunch Wright brought himself back, with devastating results. Bowen was given dubiously lbw while Wilson edged to slip, and in the next over Crampton smashed Wright straight up. Three wickets, and suddenly Blue required 74 - but with Morris, the first-innings saviour, still fighting.
Weber put paid to any hopes, however. The brace of Popat and Sriram cut Blue to 269 for nine, and despite Fitzsimmons flooring another catch and Wright getting a tad desperate with bowling changes, Maina was eventually caught by Hancock for a 54-ball three, Blue still 36 runs short.

After winning the toss, the Masters failed to exploit the fine conditions thorouhgly - Imran Farhat was the only one to cash in, providing an entertaining hundred. Yet, despite the lack of fifties, Masters totalled 396 during the first innings - and eight men were out caught, of which six were off Mitchell, who took seven for 124 while the other bowlers largely stood around doing nothing.
By contrast, the Green innings was cruising at 330 for one, when the new ball and disaster struck. Malone, Scott and Dinnen had played amazing knocks, with Scott's 170 a particular highlight, but despite this Green only got a lead of 22, as only Dubb-Lynch of the batsmen below four managed to pass twenty.
Conditions, however, had clearly improved in the bowlers' favour, and Rose and Cunningham nabbed a wicket either side of lunch on day three to put Green ahead somewhat. Another Lara special was required, and the big man of Masters cricket did not disappoint. Sixteen off a Rose over ensured the hundred, as he made the nineties last a grand total of two balls, and he closed the day unbeaten on 129, oblivious to the Corrin-induced collapse that had sent his team struggling at 246 for seven. He was eventually bowled by Rob Malone for 161, having given his team a fleeting chance; Saqlain, Bond and Henderson also managed to grit through a few runs, leaving Green with a chase of 322.
The chase was intriguing, but Callum Dinnen's massive 134 anchored it well. There was no repeat of the first innings embarrassment, but Shane Bond managed a couple of wickets in three balls, leaving 49 runs for five wickets to be completed on the final day. Shane Warne failed in the defence of the low score, however, as Raftery and Dubb-Lynch eased home to break Green's losing streak.

Cricket Web Red went second in the FC table with their fourth straight victory in the format, built on the back of a remarkable first-innings bowling effort. The second innings showed a considerable reverse of fortune, revealing that Red had perhaps got the better of conditions, but few at the Oval would decline the win.
In the absence of Cloete and the Test bowling attack, Black had opted for a shorter batting line-up, though with the league's in-form batsman opening, they chose to bat first. It backfired. In a rain-shortened opening session, Kennett and Amir tormented the top order, and late arrivals could only stare incredulously at a scorecard reading 38 for four. Speirs and Chaulk rebuilt with a half-century stand, but Ritchie separated them by completing a fine catch at gully, and another Amir burst reduced Black to 107 for eight. Richards' half-century took Black up to 195, showing the pitch was playing well - Red failed to make significant inroads against Patrick, who made the third highest score with 31.
Yet, having Black all out for less than 200 would in most cases be a match-winning achievement. The question was whether Red had the batting to back this up. Worries were calmed by the century opening stand between Robertson and Luff, however, and Gray and Singh further sealed things with 141 runs for the fourth wicket. There were further contributions from further down the order, as Red almost doubled the Black total.
From then on, the result was largely a foregone conclusion. Black always staged rallies, only to be cut short - the most dramatic rise in Black victory odds coming when they faltered from 141 for one to 188 for six - and despite Nath Patrick's three wickets with the new ball, Cricket Web Red got home by four wickets as Bennett struck the winning four.

Pleased with the 100, but disappointed it came in a loss.
Top match for Morris, looked like he might be the hero in the second innings, but Colts' bowling was just too strong.

Unbelievable innings from Dinnen, was that his FC debut? Huge knock from Scott aswell, ably supported by Malone, and who knows what would have happened if the skipper hadn't fired up with the ball in the first innings
