Has been my best OD season in a very long time. Pleased with that effort. From what I can tell everyone contributed nicely, however would have been nice to get that bonus point. Finally a win at the back end of the season. The stars must have been aligned for a day.

Great win. The top order set up the win with some amazing batting. Probably my best OD bowling performance after struggling to take wickets in previous seasons.

Haha random awful 47 ball 29 without a single boundary, and it's my best OD knock of the season

Too little to late for us though, a shame really.

Cricket Web Red vs Masters XI
at CW Oval

Masters XI recovered after an abysmal start, slipping to 102 for five after David Kennett had mastered the new ball, but Upul Chandana and Justin Kemp showed there is still fight for the league title. By the end of the day, there were even doubts over whether Red would manage to acquire their three bowling points.

As mentioned, David Kennett bowled excellently with the new ball, taking three wickets, though he had to trap Benkenstein twice to get him in the eyes of the umpire. Benkenstein smashed an out-of-form Amir around for five fours to manage a brief 31, while Martin West took care of Klusener and Lara to threaten to end the innings before lunch.

However, Kemp tucked down one end, giving few chances and looking unlikely to get out, while at the other end Chandana fought back with a rapid half-centuyr. A luckless Amir had Chandana dropped twice after he had smashed his way to 63, but he was eventually caught not long afterwards; however, Thomas Odoyo seamlessly took over the role, and saw off the older ball bowling of Bennett to see Masters to 293 for six when the new ball arrived. Odoyo was then caught at the wicket, but Michael Johnson smashed a six to end the day and help the total to 326.

Cricket Web Black vs Cricket Web Blue
at Pickford Reserve

Showers dogged an excellent game of cricket at Pickford, where Blue were made to regret their decision to bat after Black bowled well in the afternoon session almost devoid of light. All in all, five rain breaks reduced the first day's play to 65 overs.

Blue had been batting solidly until tea was taken after 28 overs, with Stephen Young easing to 34 runs and Black looking as flat as they had been in immediately preceding games. Peter Young dragged on Richards after an entertaining 18, but arguably, Gelman was the pick of the Black bowlers amid the first showers.

The evening session was largely untroubled, mainly due to umpires who thought their main duty was to let the title chase run its course. As such, play lasted until quarter to seven, and amid the gloom Black struck thrice to wobble the Blue middle order. Stephen Young was well held by bowler Smith on 64, and in the next over, Smith took two wickets with five balls - and the hosts were suddenly 152 for six. Crampton failed to stop the rot, even when granted a life, and Morris was the sole guardian of Blue hopes as he camped overnight on 46.

at CWBCC Stadium

Colts failed to gain the total control of the match in Edfield that their morning session promised, but Chris Butler kept things together with a measured century to ensure that Colts are likely to get the full compliment of batting points they need in order to have any chance of an FC final. The news of a sporting wicket at Pickford will encourage them as they go to chase wickets tomorrow.

Green were placid early on after being put in the field, requiring exquisite efforts from the fielders to take their wickets, and after the 137-run opening stand Chris Butler put together a cautious half-century to take Colts to 237 at tea. However, Chapman and Jack McNamara took a wicket each after tea, and towards the night Ethan McNamara removed Butler for 110 and Pimpkins for 27 to set back Colts in their chase of full points.

27 September - Day Two

Cricket Web Red vs Masters XI
at CW Oval

A controlled effort from Håkon Mørk has put Red in a position where they are unlikely to finish worse than second, requiring a mere 139 runs to secure the spot in the first-class final. A more polished bowling effort cut Justin Kemp short, before Red kept their wickets intact in front of a patient, yet nervous crowd.

Red were poor in the field during the opening overs, but David Kennett held two key catches to cut the innings short, and bowled during Kemp's slog to fall short of the hundred. Luff fell shortly after lunch, having already been granted one life, but the Masters looked unlikely to extract anything from the pitch, as Mørk and Gray ground out 53 from 21 overs until tea.

The post-tea session was also uneventful, except for a bizarre run out to cut short the season's leading run scorer, Jamee Gray, for 45. However, this brought on Rob Dauth, who was more than ready to strike out in order chase down maximum bonus points. A 56-ball half-century took ninety minutes to compile, largely due to Mørk hogging the strike, which means Red require 189 from 59 overs to secure maximum points and keep the threat from other teams away.

Cricket Web Black vs Cricket Web Blue
at Pickford Reserve

Black took control of the match at Pickford thanks to a fine innings from a belligerent Daniel Smith. Sudeep Popat had supported Sam Morris well in the morning, adding 53 for the second bonus point, but Mohanan cut them short and Matt Smith used the new ball to dismiss Demeza.

Dan Smith and Ritchie bashed loose against the new ball, making 51 off the first 55 deliveries, and a little later Smith took Camps for two sixes in the 17th over. Blue needed a talismanic spell from Trav Demeza to wake up, and got it, as the captain fished out Ritchie and Cloete in the same over, and also had Smith dropped on 69 - prompting a furious wide which was easily cut to third man.

At tea, Black were 173 for two, and they should have made their advantage count. However, Smith never looked entirely comfortable during his knock, and the crowd were not entirely surprised when a loud appeal from Sean Fuller was granted to give the Black captain out for 109. Alex Blackman and Ash Chaulk eradicated the deficit with seven wickets in hand, however, before Liam Camps had both lbw with brilliant deliveries. Blake Donald then compiled 24 to give Blue an overnight lead of 42.

The 'novelty XI' lost seventeen wickets in an embarrassing effort in front of their home crowd, as Colts kept their faint hopes of a final appearance alive. However, despite an excellent performance, they required help from the Blacks or Masters in order to support those hopes.

It was a day for bowling heroics. Mike Wilson and Tarick Weber were dominant off lacklustre bowling early on, but three wickets in seven balls whittled the Colts out for 419, though not before they had secured the final bonus point and a chance to earn 22 for the match.

However, compared to Green's batting, their bowling was excellent. The rotation of Wilson to the new ball worked wonders, as the Test allrounder had two men caught, and Raftery was lbw to Wright at first change. At lunch, Green were 44 for four, but their embarrassment did not end there.

The crowd went from angry to bemused as Green lost wickets at a rate of one every fifteen minutes. Kyle Wright and Mike Wilson shared eight wickets - including a run out - between them as Green slipped to 62 for eight, before a brief intermezzo from Darren Dubb-Lynch boosted them to 123. Undeterred and with little fatigue, Wright sent his troops again, with much the same results. Greg Thomas, wicketless in the first dig, now took a five-wicket-haul as Green teetered on the brink of an innings defeat, despite another heroic eighth-wicket stand and unbeaten knock from Dubb-Lynch.

Finally performing like we know we can, again looks like it's going to come a little bit too late. Need to sustain this kind of cricket over the entire season.

Cricket Web Red vs Masters XI
at CW Oval

Elated fans saw Cricket Web Red ground the Masters into a beaten pulp at the Oval, overcoming their bogey team in style after magnificent knocks from their three main batsmen. With Black easing to victory at Pickford, Red needed the win to take the league title, and had put themselves in an excellent position to force the game at the end of the third day - having smashed 429 runs in just 86 overs.

Mørk and Dauth brought up their centuries with fifteen minutes between them, and then got themselves out after having shared a 157-run stand - the new ball once again the key to unlocking a lineup. However, Chris Dwyer smashed a rapid half-century in reminisence of better days, and David Kearsley was scarcely less patient as another century partnership took Red into the lead before lunch. At Edfield, the Colts management sighed; the 350th run for Red was the final end to their trophy hopes, and the title race was down to three teams with eight sessions remaining.

Red, however, pushed onward. Gaurav Nayak was lucky to last for 24, but the Masters had little consistent threat, and David Kearsley smashed out with apt support from the tail. When Amir was bowled by Lance Klusener, however, it seemed as though the Red charge would come to an end; Martin West had not even made 100 runs in first-class cricket this season, but was sent in ahead of David Kennett as Red needed the quickest runs they could get. It paid off spectacularly. West doubled his seasonal average as he smashed five fours and a six, untroubled by even a second new ball, and added 71 with a tired Kearsley, who was eventually held by Chandana for a round 150. Red struggled out the day to 640, with West being allowed to improve his career high to wherever he could get it.

Cricket Web Black vs Cricket Web Blue
at Pickford Reserve

Cricket Web Black all but completed the win and the FC final spot on the back of a splendid bowling effort from Matt Smith, as they were left with a formality of a target. Manan Shah was top scorer for Blue, as their batting form from a couple of weeks ago appeared to have vanished.

Trav Demeza failed to deny Black the full bonus points, but still bowled well enough to take three more wickets and bowl Black out for 403; Blake Donald was last out, having registered 59 brutal runs.

Blue started well, adding 30 in six troublefree overs, but Fuller was then dubiously given out lbw to Heath Davis, which started the debacle. Matt Smith bowled both Youngs before lunch, and Blue were on the ropes, surrendering their first three wickets for 53.

A rested Smith returned rejuvenated after the lunch break, not bothered by the fact that the ball should, by the laws of physics, have swung less than before the break. He had Camps caught behind and Bowen out slogging, and Blue were still only halfway to Black's first innings lead. When Rob Cribb then fended Zac Gelman behind for 33, it seemed all but over, and Blue's lower order capitulated. Trav Demeza surprised many with an unbeaten 13, while Manan Shah top scored - showing that the Black attack could still struggle - but after getting their opponents out for 204 and requiring only 90 to win, few cared. Demeza struck one further blow, with Smith caught behind for a duck, but again, it was largely meaningless.

Darren Dubb-Lynch showed that there was some heart left in Green despite yesterday's capitulation, as he pressed on to a second unbeaten knock; yet again he ran out of partners, however, and Green only just avoided the innings defeat inside three days. Five balls later, Colts could celebrate the win; however, with Black already bowled out and Red having passed 350, there were subdued celebrations among the Colts fans - despite having the fewest losses this season, they could not reach the final.
