Day Four

Cricket Web Black vs Cricket Web Blue
at Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Andrew Cloete and Alex Blackman completed the formality, despite Demeza's eighth wicket briefly inducing jitters in the squad. Cloete then spent the next five deliveries by scoring seventeen runs, a sixth of the second-innings target, to calm things down after the nervous start.

Now, Black will be watching footage from Nixonstown nervously, as the Masters attempt to turn their massive deficit into a positive result.

Cricket Web Blue 288 all out & 204 all out

Cricket Web Black 403 all out & 92 for two (18.3)
Cloete 41*, Blackman 32*; Demeza 2/43

Cricket Web Black won by eight wickets
Man of the Match: M. J. Smith (Black)

Cricket Web Red vs Masters XI
at CW Oval

The Masters refused to give in at the Oval, exploiting severe chinks in the Red bowling lineup to set a tricky fifth-day target for the Reds to chase. Lance Klusener took a wicket with the seventh ball, as Red failed to add more than one to their overnight total, and Farhat and Das saw off the new ball effectively. However, after help from Farhat to run himself out, Red remain on top of this clash and the likeliest bet to take the league title.

Martin West was fortuitous to grab Red's first wicket before lunch, as Shiv Sundar Das had smashed the immediately preceding, identical, ball for six. Just after lunch he dropped an easy return catch, failing to place himself correctly, and Farhat said many thanks, pulling his way to 97 at tea as the Masters had nearly overhauled the first innings total with just two wickets down. The players went in to tea with the sun bearing down on tired fielders, needing something special to come back.

Mørk turned to David Kennett, and duly reaped rewards. He should have had a brace of Lara and Klusener, but the umpire turned down an appeal from all eleven Reds; two balls later Farhat set off to keep the strike and was comically run out. FOur down and the pressure began to subside. Muhammad Amir then took two further wicket before the close of play, though Justin Kemp was 38 not out overnight and threatened to repeat his first innings heroics.

Cricket Web Red 641 all out (168.1)
Kearsley 150, Mørk 105, Dauth 100, Dwyer 70, West 60; Klusener 3/125, Bond 3/147

Masters XI 381 all out & 331 for six (86)
Farhat 110, Lara 83; Kennett 2/52

Masters XI lead by 71 runs with four wickets in hand

27 September - FC - Day Five

Masters XI vs Cricket Web Red
at Casston Reserve

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Cricket Web Red won their first league title in their nine-year history after an ultimately controlled chase of a large total. Utilising all the available time, they needed a little over twenty-eight hours to overcome the Masters and take the necessary points, and they also required a considerable bonus point advantage to take the title, which was built on the efforts of the two highest run-scorers among CWLand players.

Red plugged away during the morning session, taking the last four wickets reasonably cheaply; Justin Kemp added 25 to his overnight score before being bowled by Amir, while Michael Johnson continued to show promise with a gritty 32. The Masters were all out for 423 as the players took an early lunch, with 164 runs still required for the title.

Red struggled early on, with Matt Luff dropped twice after a swift 16 and Rob Dauth struggling after being promoted to three in a rash decision to score runs quickly; Justin Kemp then held Mørk for 39, but Shane Warne failed to take an easy catch to his gut as David Kearsley was given a life on one. It was the signal Red needed to calm down. A half-century partnership took Red to tea with no further loss, and the teams began the final session with 31 runs required for a Red victory. Four boundaries, a no-ball and fourteen runs later, and Kearsley and Gray could embrace en route to the winning single - a memorable moment for all Reds, both on the inside and the outside of the Oval.

Masters XI 381 all out & 423 all out (113.2)
Farhat 110, Lara 83, Kemp 63; Kennett 3/72

Cricket Web Red 641 all out & 164 for three (39.3)
Kearsley 46*, Gray 40*, Mørk 39; Odoyo 2/37

Cricket Web Red won by seven wickets

Pffft. **** had a good old whine at Green because you guys didn't show up, should've been inspiring you guys for the next one instead of blaming others.
Hey, fair enough. Been too busy getting lashed about by Aussie superstars.

To add injury to insult, the Colts have received news of two brutal injuries at the end of the season. Ryan Dunn suffered a shin bruise and is out for two matches, while Mike Wilson damaged a knee cartilage in the warm-up after coming back from the Test match and is out for the remainder of the home international season.
