*Official* NZ Domestic Season

Tim

Cricketer Of The Year
Shaun Haig & Tim Weston (C.D) have made a fair impression since coming along late in the season.

Although, SM, I might add that Haig played for dirty, stinkin' Taieri when I played in Dunedin. I think I played in the match where he made his senior debut at just 16.

Tim,

Both Haig and Weston have spent time at the Albion cricketing nursery in Dunedin... :D

Saw a news headline this morning that read "U2 to play Auckland in November"

I think that could be quite a good contest. Bit unfair that it's 11 on 4 though.

Auckland look like they are in trouble vs CD - 164/4 needing to bat out the last day or score over 400. Mind you, Lou is in and needs some runs under pressure...

ND are 89/5 needing 353 to beat Wgtn. Good luck boys, don't think it will happen though. So Wellington should stay top of the table.

I still think U2 would have the edge though...

Sorry.

I see they are trying Lythe at 3. He's a solid player, certainly not a stroke player, but can hang in there as he's shown in his short career so far. It's a shame. All of Auckland's bowlers are converted into bits and pieces players.

If New Zealand are the bits and pieces country of world cricket, Auckland are the bits and pieces team. GET SOME SPECIALISTS!

I have no problems about having allrounders in the side if they can make the side on one aspect of their play alone. Lythe has averaged a very respectable 35+ in his first class average, so if they are going to select him in the side, he could probably make it on the basis of his batting.

An ideal Auckland XI....

1 Jones, 2 McIntosh, 3 Horne, 4 Vincent, 5 Styris, 6 Nicol, 7 Young+, 8 Canning, 9 Adams, 10 Mills, 11 Martin

Mills has done **** all with the bat in the past few seasons.

I certainly think that Lythe should be in the team. They need a spin option - Eden Park Outer is usually a pretty low, slow kind of pitch (the times I have been anyway), which is where they play most of their first class cricko.

Still can't believe the guy only has a leg and a half. Surely, that means he can't be out LBW...

Well, Lythe has scored 310 runs at 38.75 with three fifties, topping the AKL averages, and most 50's also...

But yes, his bowling has been poor statistaically, 6 wickets at 54...

Auckland do need a spin bowler though. Even Brook Walker was hardly used in the last couple of years, and he was captain!

Good luck to Tom. Auckland need him. They also need to not import people like Scott Styris who, by and large, will not be available to them. They need Sinclair!

Matthew Bell scored his 16th First-Class century today. He was out for 162.
Could he be an outside chance of making the squad for South Africa to open instead of Hamish Marshall?

Looks like the Auckland v Wellington match is headed for a draw if the Wellington batsman can hang on. Auckland need 3 more wickets to take an outright win.

Unless he scores a century in every match for a couple of years, I hope Bell never returns.
