Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web U-19
at CW Oval

Scorecard
Commentary

Red were shaken by the Under-19s, particularly Kevin Goughy and Chris Dwyer, but ultimately their greater depth proved enough to beat the Under-19s in a shabby game of cricket. After winning the toss and batting, the youth team scored runs at a canter, with Black's Luff heading the rout. Scott, Ritchie, Vaughan and Pitt proved worthy support acts, before Luff hoiked to Dauth at square leg for 73 and allowed Dwyer to take over in his role. He made 47 at a little quicker than a run a ball, before Matt Smith and George Roberts added what looked like valuable 36 runs for the tenth wicket. Then, Kev Goughy contributed six wickets, seemingly finding movement where no one else could, and only a cameo of 64 from captain Dave Watt saw Red overcome the U-19's total. Jamee Gray also received lauding words from the experts around the ground, playing a measured 68 which included masterful shepherding of Red's very own Wall: David Kennett.

The U-19s were ultimately not very suited to the pace of the game, and lasted 74.2 overs for their twenty wickets; despite contributing 425 runs, with Dwyer and Luff wreckers-in-chief with the bat, it wasn't really anywhere near posing a threat. Goughy continued from his firt-innings form with a stupendous delivery to get rid of Dobson, but was still smacked about by Mamesh, Dauth and Nayak, and with two no-balls he conceded 46 in seven overs as Red cantered to the 102-run target in less than 20 overs.

Cricket Web U-19 245 all out (Luff 73; Watt 5/70, Edmunds 3/56)
Cricket Web Red 323 all out (Gray 68, Watt 64; Goughy 6/81)
Cricket Web U-19 180 all out (Dwyer 66; Bennett 5/35)

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Green
at PDV Dome

Scorecard
Commentary

Rob Cribb provided an innings for the ages at the PDV Dome, rivalling Jackie McGlew as he batted through ten and a half hours from the opening position to ground out 180 runs. It was a painful sight for the Green captain, who will harbour considerable doubts about his seam attack after they conceded 603 runs on a greenish wicket; even that was due to a declaration. The barrage of no-balls didn't help, either, as extras was the third-highest scorer of the innings, behind Cribb and Cloete, who smashed 136 in a highly entertaining encounter. Extras made 65, of which 30 were no-balls, all made by the seamers; spinner Rob Hing went through 35 overs without a no-ball or a wide, but still only contributed one for 112.

When Green batted, Trav Demeza destroyed all hopes of a warm-up victory. Malone (bowled 4), Dravid (caught Cribb 0), Rodgie (caught Patrick 0), Garven (bowled 3) were his victims on the second afternoon, and he added Gaukroger (caught Goff 14), Cunningham (bowled 14), and Hing (bowled for a golden duck) on the second morning. With Collins snaring the next two wickets, Demeza went off the boil as there was no chance of a ten-for, and Andy Cameron was allowed to hit 40 before getting a nick behind off spinner Currie. Following on, Green provided entertainment, but ultimately little resistance; runs came at more than five an over, with Dravid, Rodgie, Garven, Cunningham and Rose all scoring at a hefty rate, but forced to post 444 just to make Blue bat again was too much.

Cricket Web Blue 603 for six declared (Cribb 180, Cloete 136, Extras 65)
Cricket Web Green 160 all out (Lezama 50*; Demeza 7/72)
Cricket Web Green 398 all out (following on, Garven 89, Dravid 79, Cunningham 77; Collins 3/72)
Cricket Web Blue won by an innings and 45 runs
Man of the Match: R. G. E. W. S. Cribb

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Black
at Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Commentary

Mike Wilson ensured Black got a nervy warm-up victory by four wickets against Colts, putting on an excellent stand of 83 for the seventh wicket after a magnificent old-ball spell from Kyle Wright had put the visitors in real trouble. Before that, however, Colts had showed their old weakness - a fragile batting lineup. The top five contributed 57 runs together, and only a typical bashing hundred from Shan Jasotharan - along with a stonewalling 15 from Nick Hancock - kept them away from a sub-100 total. Nick Borcich wrecked the top order, then went off the boil and bowled five no-balls, but no bowler seemed in true control and it was genuine throwing away of wickets.

Not so when Black batted. Test seamer Kyle Wright showed that there was still steam in the old engine when he took four wickets with the new ball, including CW's top first-class run scorer Simon Fitzsimmons lbw for a golden duck - a top-notch inswinging yorker. However, David Kearsley and debutante Jennifer Law put on 147 for the fifth wicket, and Kearsley's grinding 76 was what put Black slightly ahead - despite another new-ball spell from Wright which brought his tally to six wickets.

Colts put up a real fight the second time around, however. Led by Daniel Towns, who had succumbed to Kexing Su's slower ball in the first innings, they piled on runs, and as Borcich's pace slowed and accuracy vanished, Colts scored runs at a quick rate. Notable were also Pooja Bharat's 68 and another fine knock from Jasotharan, but after his dismissal, Colts crashed from 264 for five to 301 all out. Set a tricky 230 to win, Black put up a solid opening partnership, before Hancock and Wright combined to put the visitors back to 118 for five. At that moment, Colts held the upper hand, but Borcich's fine 30 and Wilson's faultless half-century ensured that Black ended victorious.

Cricket Web Colts 207 all out (Jasotharan 101; Hoy 3/48, Borcich 3/58)
Cricket Web Black 282 all out (Law 97, Kearsley 76; Wright 6/79)
Cricket Web Colts 301 all out (Towns 103, Bharat 68; Wilson 4/59)
Cricket Web Black 230 for six (Wilson 60*; Wright 3/44)

Good showing from Reds, there. That's what this is about. Playing ourselves into form for the big stuff.

Interesting. Definitely positives and negatives to be taken out of that - will look forward to seeing how things go with our other lads.

All in all I'm happy with the performance of the Colts. Due to this being our first hit out in a very long time there are a lot of positives to take out of this game. Will be interesting to see how the next warm-ups go.
