Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Under-19
at Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Simon Fitzsimmons enjoyed an excellent outing at Pickford, as Black made it three from three against a young side lacking application and patience. Neverthlsess, Batsman Matthew Luff in particular emerged with credit, scoring 32 and 96 in tricky batting conditions.

Conditions were, indeed, so difficult that U-19 captain Roberts thought it might be a good idea to put his experienced opponents in to bat. Huge clouds loomed over the Pickford Reserve, which also looked to have tricky bounce, and with seamer Goughy impressing in his previous outing, the youngsters fancied their chances. However, Simon Fitzsimmons was in belligerent mood, taking Goughy out of the attack, and after the medium pace of Dunn had yielded two wickets, Black stamped their authority on the game. Chris Butler joined Fitzsimmons in the battering, as the two crashed 173 runs in 45 overs, before a good spell from Manjunath Reddlapalli. The all-rounder continued his fine form with the ball, claiming two for 42 in his 12 overs, before George Roberts and Paddy Gundry wrecked havoc with the old ball against the tail.

Then, the youngsters crumbled. Nick Scott opening has never been a success with Green, as he has had visible problems against the swinging red ball, and today he nicked an awayswinger from Hoy to Jennifer Law at fourth slip. No partnership really got going, and only a desperate rearguard from Reddlapalli - who was last out at 35 - helped them past 100. Hoy emerged with credit for his first spell, but was too wayward in his second, and it was up to Neil Pickup to clean the tail - before Borcich was reintroduced and had Reddlapalli hoiking to Pickup at deep mid on.

Batting again, the story repeated itself: Fitzsimmons contributed a massive hundred, sharing a stand of 161 with talented opener Daniel Smith, and another good knock from Butler helped the lead into the "unassailable" region. With a lead of 450, Pickup declared, and immediately Borcich snared Scott (caught for 1) and Pitt (lbw for a golden) to leave the U-19s short of any chance of victory. Two entertaining stands ensured that the youngsters got a creditable score up, with Vaughan playing a fine knock of 69, as support act to the excellent Luff's 96.

Cricket Web Black 308 all out (Fitzsimmons 151, Butler 85; Gundry 3/47)

Cricket Web Green v Cricket Web Colts
at CWBCC Stadium

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

This clash was over inside two days, as neither side seemed to have a player who appreciated the true value of a long innings - bar possibly Andy Cameron, whose No. 11 rearguard lasted 68 deliveries. Apart from that, the bowlers got freebies, though Greg Thomas' opening spell was stuff for the ages, and Bryce Cunningham showed that he is going to be a very important player for the Greens this season.

Green opted to bat first on a glorious day, and immediately collapsed. Once again, the opening problem reared its ugly head, as Gaukroger, Dravid, Malone and Garven fell in quick succession. Thomas seized three wickets in a fine opening spell, but the change bowlers failed to keep up the pressure, and after lunch Thomas was the first bowler to get a second spell.

The effect was instantaneous. In his first over, he had the batsmen beaten twice: in the second, he got two wickets for two runs, including the only Green batsman to pass 30, Rodgie. After a brief resistance from Cunningham and Rose, Thomas returned to completed stunning figures of eight for 32.

Colts, however, failed to build on a good platform provided by Das and Burke. The pair put on 90 for the first wicket, but after five sixes from Pooja Bharat in a blitz of 66, Andy Cameron picked up wickts, and Bryce Cunningham completed a five-wicket-haul when Thomas nicked to Dravid in the slips. Colts still gained a lead of 58, mainly thanks to the stand between Bharat and Gelman.

Then another Green collapse followed - even worse than the first. Eight batsmen perished in single figures, six of them caught, with McKern, Hancock and Thomas picking up three wickets each in a frantic session of play. Only Rob Malone stood tall, hitting 62, but he slashed David Comley's first ball to point to be last out, leaving Cameron stranded with a valiant 14 not out. He also took the wicket of Gary Nayak, sending Colts to 25 for two, but Das and Malthus-Howell averted all that Green could send at them and secured an eight-wicket win.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Red
at PDV Dome

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Red quietly worked their way to a painless eight-wicket victory over Blue in the grudge match, as the Blue batsmen seemed content to play themselves in and not build long innings. It cost them dearly against relentless bowling, and as an added bonus, Red opener Håkon Mørk showed clear signs of form with a near-chanceless century.

Blue batted first in their Dome, but lost three wickets to the opening seam pairing Watt and Kennett. That may have been par for the course, but Red have always struggled to keep the pressure up: not so today. Dinu de Silva gifted a simple catch to Rob Dauth after racing to 22, and when the change seamers Nayak and Edmunds proved ineffective, Red changed to the miserly Bennett. He provided a classic lecture of leg-spin, was at times unplayable, and the Blue batsmen showed him due respect by playing out seven maidens. However, he still snared three wickets, and with the help of David Kennett and James Stedman, he ended the innings for 183.

Red began with a fine opening partnership between Mamesh and Mørk, before Blue made inroads through Fuller, Camps and Halsey. At 96 for three, Red were in a spot of bother, but Stedman ground it out with Mørk and saw out the first day's play.

The second morning was commonly described as "dull". Deliveries rarely reached above 100kph, few strokes were on display, and Mørk retreated into his shell from his overnight fifty. Collins did get a vital breakthrough when his quicker ball was fended away backward of square where Fuller held an excellent catch, and Currie then took three wickets before lunch as Blue began to produce chances.

After lunch, wicket-keeper Crampton dropped two clear chances, allowing Mørk to go on to his ton before chipping a return catch to Currie, his fourth wicket of the day. Little resistance followed, and Red only led by 56 despite a much longer stint at bat, and after an opening stand of 48 the game was nearly back in the balance.

However, Gaurav Nayak showed glimpses of form, producing fine deliveries to remove Goff and de Silva, and it appeared to be up to Fuller and Camps to save the day. Camps did so, producing a very fine fifty, but was woefully short of support - and with Stedman once again removing the tail to end with match figures of four for 24, Red were left a reasonably low target of 144.

That never looked in doubt. Stedman was promoted, but failed to handle Demeza, but Mørk and Mamesh provided a partnership of 105 to put Red on the brink of victory. Mørk fell four short of the half-century, bringing Jamee Gray to the crease, and he made four not out - failing, however, to hit the winning runs after given five chances at it with the scores tied.

Economical peformance in the OD game the other day, and now a decent showing in the four-dayer. Four innings without dimissal now.

Quality stuff from Simon.

I am a little worried that Law, Chaulk and Blackman made the sum total of ten runs between them in six innings there - and that a guy I'm about to trade away made nearly 13 times as many. Still, 3/3.

That's what happens when you let your top class leggie play for the opposition.

Holy crap at Thomas, amazing stuff there. Bad stuff, however, from the Greens. The batting just was't consistent enough. In both innings we had someone (Rodgie and then Malone) make a good start, but there was no one there to support. Bowling was a lot better than before though, especially from Cunningham, who was really the only one to come out with a good economy rate. Still, it's an improvement.

my 3rd Fifty in 5 innings now with my experience i think I should start to try and convert them into tons im really showing the form of an U19 player that is definetly not that far away from that level
