Man nice to see both Gundry and Currie performing well. The spinners spot for the Under 19s looks like its hotting up.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Green
in PDV Dome

Scorecard
Commentary

Despite the best efforts of Matt Currie, whose spin was at times unplayable, Green eked across the line after fragile batting performances from Blue. Despite lacking a few key elements, Blue's top order wilted dangerously against Cunningham and Rose with the new ball, and Green held on after a fine opening stand between Malone and Lezama.

Blue batted first, and when Alex Crampton nicked Rose into the slips for Scott's third catch, they were in serious trouble at 36 for four. In reality, they never recovered, despite Currie and Smith providing some resistance. Nine catches were given up in the first 51.1 overs, and after outswing undid the top order, it was really only de Silva who was worked out when Cameron trapped him lbw; the remainder gave soft edges at a crucial stage of the game.

The bowlers worked well to tug Blue back into it, but Garven, Dubb-Lynch and Cunningham all hit quick if small contributions, and despite Collins' medium pace celebrating four for 21 in a couple of nagging spells, Green edged out 42 ahead. On a difficult PDV Dome wicket, it looked to be very crucial, particularly when Young perished for his second single-figure score in the same match.

At 97 for five, with de Silva clean bowled, it looked like an action replay for Blue. But once again Currie came to the rescue, ably supported by Gooljar, who hit six fours in a gritty 43. The two added 91 to give Green some semblance of a target, but were ultimately taken apart by spinner Gundry, who took four for 29.

When Malone and Lezama's opening partnership stood at 119, the match was almost sewn up. But Currie refused to give up, broke through with the fifth ball after lunch, and was absolutely unplayable from then on to get figures of 10-0-29-6 in his final spell. However, a couple of misfields gave Rose a couple of threes, and with Cunningham floored twice off Gooljar's bowling, Green managed to get home from their position at 16 needed with four wickets in hand.

Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
in CW Oval

Scorecard
Commentary

A vastly inexperienced Red side was always going to struggle in their own Oval, but led by captain Dave Watt and fiery knocks from Kenny Dobson and Ian Markus they gave Black a very good fight in front of incensed home fans. Ultimately, however, the passage of play when Callum Thompson and Mike Wilson got on top of the bowling in the first innings became crucial.

Red batted first, fearful of what Black's batsmen could do to their inexperienced bowling attack, but both openers went to an expensive Warwick before the next batsmen were smacked out following starts. Nick Borcich was on fine form, nabbing five wickets in a fine spell.

Red fought back, helped by poor inside edges from Blacks' top order, who also failed to convert their starts, and at 121 for five it looked like Red might even have achieved parity despite their paltry first innings score of 197. However, Callum Thompson played a one-day style knock, trickling runs down past tired fielders to quietly notch up 79 in 70 deliveries. Dave Watt ended the partnership of 91, claiming three wickets in a long 22-over workout, but Black still achieved a lead of 94.

Reds' second innings relied heavily on Dobson and Markus, who both played very good innings against testing bowling, but Borcich had Dobson bowled in the morning and the slide really continued from there. Thompson bowled a good spell mid-innings to claim a couple more wickets, before Richards, Wilson and Borcich took the final wickets and left Black with a modest 166 to chase.

It was never really in danger. Dan Smith kept one end occupied, staying in for 149 balls before getting run out, and once again the Red fielders failed to keep Thompson under control, and he hit a 45-run partnership with Jamee Gray to win the game for Black by five wickets.

Cricket Web Black 291 all out (Thompson 79; Reddlapalli 4/70, Watt 3/54)

Disappointing loss there Blues, would've hoped I could have done more in the bowling department.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLUES!

Another scratchy but satisfactory win Green. The bowling department is really firing with four of us consistently taking wickets. We managed alot of starts in the batting but no one could quite pull out a big score which we will need to start happening in the future if we are to have much more success in the competition.

Good win there Greens. As Bryce said however, the batting does need to improve, cause 176 and 7/175 won't win us many games. Good bowling though, Cunningham continuing his fine form with the ball, while everyone else chipped in with some good wickets. Let's keep up this winning, Greens.

First loss for the season for Red, bit disappointing we couldn't fend off our challengers. 30 and 14 personally is not much of a return but hopefully I can improve on it for the next game and it'd be good if we beat Green.
