I felt it was important to seperate the 2 different versions of the game, and so this thread should give people the opportunity to discuss the newly released version here.

Forgot the previous version which wasn't really ready, what do people think of the game now? any problems people are still encountering with regards to bugs and gameplay, and any additional features you would like to see included in future updates.

Let the discussions begin:)

right, i'm in a position to comment myself now on the early feel to the game. No problems whatsoever so far, really enjoying the feel to the game. Admittedly I haven't done alot yet, have spent around an hour just checking player statistics and averages etc, but from this respect it is superb.

Some good features allowing you to list and view players in a particular order i.e years left on contract which I have found more than useful. Really I need to investigate more before saying anything else but I am delighted at the statistics of players and the overall interface.

It's looking good to me:cool: :)

The only thing I have found so far is the annoying feature when searching for players. I have selected the filters of "only available" and it filters my search accordingly, but I like to click on every single player to check theres stats, and enjoy the game by looking at there abilities. Then when I click back the list has re-set to all players again and I have to select the "only available" option each time.

However I am sure this is easily fixed, and will probably feature in an update once Glenn and Oli have sorted out more pressing priorities. In addition to this (and I know it has been mentioned before) the option to compare 2 players against each other (with different colours and bars representing who is better in which areas) would be a useful feature, again I am sure this will be included in a later update once other things have been addressed.

I'm still looking through players stats though, I suppose this is the sort of thing you do when playing a game for the first time. I'll probably spend most of the 1st day simply checking out players stats and aquainting myself with some players I haven't come across before:cool:

On the demo, each time I try to sign a player I get the message that he I'm only allowed 2 overseas players in my squad, even though they are blatantly English!

With regard to signings when I try to sign a foreign player I get the message that "I already have the maxium of -1 foregin players.

As I am Lancashire I have Hodge and Law are these both classes as overseas (I suspect they are, although I remember in ICC2005 hodge wasn't classed as foreign. Since there contracts are coming up i've tried to release them but apparantly my squad is too small.

However I don't want to be left frustrated as I only want to keep 1 of the 2 anyway, allowing me to bring in someone like Tendulkar, Ponting, or possibly the likes of Singh or Lee. By the time the Law or Hodge find another club the cream of the talent may have already been signed up:sleep:  :@

Yeah the bug is known.

sammy - Hodge is classified as an overseas player but Law shouldn't be. Do they both have "globes" next to their name on the Basic player screen?

Thanks Timewell, Hodge has a globe, Law hasn;t so your right Law is not classed as overseas. Therefore I only have one, which is Hodge. Should I not be entitled to another overseas signing? as I under the new rulings I should get 2 overseas players a season.but when I try and sign them I get told the message I detailed in my earlier post

Thanks Oli, I thought I was going mad or missing something when I got told I could only have 1 foreign player, even though I was sure I should get 2.

I might just wait for the updated version to come on before playing on, as I don't want to start playing a season with only 1 overseas player signed up.

Ok, here's my problems with the new game (works on my office PC, not my home one)

  • Still too many broken legs, Colly & Key both out.
  • Filters very clumsy, and don't work all the time. Couldn't find Flintoff on a search for all rounders.
  • Ashley Giles is not an all rounder
  • From running like 100m sprinters to follow balls to the boundary, fielders don't move at all. Even if it looks like they could cut it off
  • Cook got out for 51, but he's still at the crease, now on 62
  • I got 694 runs in 2 days with all my batsmen set to max aggression. This does not happen
  • The Sri Lankan final wicket came up as M Hoggard c Vaas b Jayawardene, which was the last wicket in my first innings
  • You can't change the bowler for the first over of a new day in a test match, you have to bowl one over first
  • The declare button is too easy to press when selecting a new batsmen - why would you want to? If you want to declare, you should have to look for the button
  • Then in the next game, I put all my batsmen to lowest aggression, and I was all out for 100. Do you have this the wrong way round or something?
  • There should be a lock aggression button for the bowlers
  • Tea & Lunch give too much fitness back to the bowlers
  • You only ever need 4 bowlers, as the fitness is good enough that after you have bowled your openers out, 2 more guys will get you to lunch, when you can then bring on your openers again. Repeat, Repeat
  • Need to overhaul the interface, and make it so you can easily switch between ODI & Test squads, and even A teams & U19s
  • Ed Smith gets selected to open the ODIs ahead of Tresco?
  • It selected Ashley Giles as the WK in the ODIs
  • On maximum aggression, and despite me being only 2 down with KP and Cook at the crease, I only went at a RR of just over 4. With KP only getting 7 4s and 1 6 in an innins of 102
  • You can still select spinners to bowl leg spin or off spin. If only we could turn Gilo into a leg spinner with the touch of a button
  • There was rain in an ODI and there was no duckworth/lewis or even RR, it just went on till after 9pm when it finished.
  • Strike rate of attacking players (KP, Freddy, Blackwell) not high enough through the slog overs. Flintoff came in on 42 overs and hit 30 without getting a single boundary.
  • It Crashed.

I think that's enough for now.

Overall, it seems like an above average shareware piece of software. Certainly you can't expect anyone to pay more than a fiver for it.

It doesn't seem like a game of cricket, you don't get immersed in it the same way you do in other good sports game, I just took off the highlights, and hammered the 'over' button until all my batsmen were out, and just kept doing that. I'd consider replacing the overhead view with written commentary like the earlier CM games - it would get people immersed more.

The interface really lets you down, it seems too big and colourful, and there are still issues with having to click on buttons more than once. Sports management games at their best look and feel like very slick databases until you get too the match screen. Oh, and there's no training or field settings, which have to be a must in future.

Keep at it though - it needs a lot more development, and a lot more testing, but if you try and sell this for more than a few quid, you'll never get people coming back for later incarnations - especially if full price reviews rip it to shreds.

The game keeps crashing for me exiting out back to windows when i click forwards on backwards to scroll through news. It is only when scrollling through news that the game exits for me so far. Hopefully the new update will solve this problem.

As already stated 1.01 did not work on my laptop, so I downloaded it to the desktop to see if it would work.

It did, Hurrah.

I enjoyed the game but there is room for tweaks.
I found the easiest way to do well was pick a team of batsmen and let them do the bowling.

For Yorkshire my bowling attack was Lumb, Lehmann, Vaughan, Mcgrath (I did have some injuries ruling out my main seamers to start with) and they destroyed batting line-ups far too easily. In 1 game I put Strauss (I signed him) on to bowl to see if a non-bowler would do well and he bowled 10.4 overs taking 4 wkts for 13 runs!

I tried to take a screencap and when I went back to the game it crashed.

End of the day I enjoyed it and its good to see people trying to work out the bugs but there is some work still to do.

PS about the feilding. Where is the big problem? Surely the engine has determined the ball will go for 4 and the graphics just interpret it. The fielder not moving does not cost you runs. Same as how the keepers sometimes behave in FM

With the fielding, it just doesn't seem realistic at all - and when you are doing a sports management simulation - the mind has to make it real, helped if possible by on screen commentary or whatever.

With the fielders not moving, it's not like keepers on FM, it's more like if a ball was going out for a throw in, none of the players on either team moving.

It would be far better if the text commentary was clearer, not being on top of each other but one after the other so you have to read it, and then something like, Pietersen is chasing it to the 3rd man boundary, looks like it'll go for 4, it has!

Before I start can I thank Oli and Glenn for such a good game. Keep it up!

Yeah, the commentary would look better going from top to bottom.
Agreed.

Points I'd like to make:

- Players that are nowhere near international sides making teams. England is almost perfect, but most others are miles off.
- All Indian (maybe other nations) slow left armers appear as bowler type: 0
- When I had a look at Bangladesh v Australia, Bangladesh had two specialist batsmen batting below five bowlers at number ten and eleven.
- 2D display. Seems to be fairly useless. I known lots of effort went into this but even if the AI was sorted out, it doesn't add anything to me.
- No fielding restrictions? AI West Indies started a OD game with most fielders on the boundary against me.

Am I missing something or can you not adjust anything for the bowlers bar the basic aggression? No precise line and length or fields?

And finally...
can we see what the game would look like if all italics were changed to normal font? I think it would look for more clinical and professional.

Oh i dunno, i was kinda bemused to lose Iain Sutcliffe to the England tour of Sri Lanka at the start of the game :)
