Some of those came on the disgraceful roads against India. Even then, he had "beast stats" and a truly brilliant year with the bat.

The stats by themselves would justify his selection, albeit with Ponting and Murali still having credible claims, but Yousuf's effort is particularly outstanding given, as the article said, the never ending circus of controversy and at times farce that surrounded the Pakistani team this year. Reminiscent of an Andy Flower or Allan Border in terms of salvaging pride for your country out in the middle actually. Well done Yousuf and well done CW staff on a good choice and article.

Yeah the crazy thing about MoYo has been, as already seen, the fact that he accomplished this amongst so much bloody controversy in Pakistani cricket throughout the year.

He, Ponting and Murali all had great cases but I think this year was Yousuf's.

Nothing to disagree with there - a well written article and the right choice for Player of the Year. It sadly appears that MoYo's wife has had some minor complications with her pregnancy and he is staying home to tend to her, meaning he is definitely out of the first Test against Sth Africa, and might miss the whole series.

So we'll have to wait a bit longer to see if his runscoring feast will continue. Of course staying with his wife is the right thing to do, but from a purely cricketing standpoint the last thing he needs is a break with the momentum he has right now - runs of form like this generally only come along once in a career, if they come along at all.

Yeah, good article. It was those 3 that burned everyone this year. Murali had a phenomenal year and played a large part in Sri Lanka's success this year. Ponting was amazing with the bat and was leading by example in every series, almost every test. But Yousef, this year, was just a freak and his figures leave little doubt as to why.

I thought I'd mention this on this thread concerning Yousuf's form of late. In the Karachi test against West Indies, the bounce was terrible and the only way to actually score seemed to be by grafting and grafting all day long. Excluding Yousuf, the highest scores were 104 (Hafeez) and 81 (Ganga). Both scoring at a S/R of mid 30s. Where as Yousuf scored 104 and 124 at a S/R of well above 60. His two innings consisted of 31 boundaries.

Just thought I'd mention that ahead of the RSA tour.

Too bad it looks like he won't play :(

But yes those knocks were some of his best of the year, probably his best though he had so many I'd have to go over it properly.

Hmmm...disagree. *Four* players stood out, and the fourth was indeed Michael Hussey. Other than that, no complaints about picking MoYo formerly known as YoYo over MuMu and PuPo....
