Intercontinental Cup, 2007

I've noticed there's quite a bit of interest in 'minnow' cricket on here - but I don't see a thread for the ICC Intercontinental Cup, which started yesterday with Scotland taking on the UAE at Ayr. No play today Scorecard

Holland (as I'm afraid I always call them) are playing Canada in the other match, and are currently 183-6 at King City. I don't know if people will want to use the 'Netherlands in Canada' thread for that game though.

No Zuiderent for the Dutch - I can't remember the last time he missed a game for them.

Fixtures here, by the way. :)

Good to see Kervezee firstly allowed to play and secondly hitting a decent number of runs.

Shame that van Bunge's retired. The Dutch team also looks significantly weaker without ten Doeschate.

Are there any alternatives to Jeroen Smits as keeper? I can't remember him ever making a significant contribution.

Cool
Didn't realise it went on for so long.
Ireland in August.
Look forward to that alright.

Scotland need a good tournament after a pretty poor World Cup. Not the greatest start against UAE, but it seems a few key players are missing such as Hoffman, Lyons and Hamilton

Atse Buurman, the guy who made 16 today, is a keeper.

First day totals in Ontario: Netherlands 297, Canada 15-2. Debutant Mudassar Bukhari blasted 66* with the tail then took two wickets opening the bowling. Fair effort.

For a 33-year old, no less.

Good 3rd wicket stand developing, though.

Interesting to see Buurman play as a specialist bat.

I was just reading a report on Dutch domestic cricket on the cricketeurope site - to find out what's happened to Zuiderent and Tim de Leede - and Nolan Clarke is still playing!

The oldest player in the 1996 World Cup, he must be nearing pensionable age now.

He's 58 now, IIRC.

Haha can't believe it got stuck, a good day for emerging nations. PhoenixFire getting close to taking the title from Jack as gunnest moderator IMO.

What your thoughts on the format guys, i reckon its another positive step forward.

Buurman v Smits is interesting one. Smits is pretty gun keeper and probably a better bat then his position in the order might say. Its just that Holland seem to produce a lot of bowler who bat. Might be something to do with their selection policy, going for multi skilled players, or maybe its just the type of players the develop. Most of there batsmen seem to be able to bowl as well.

Buurman selection as specialist batsmen, probably does say something about his batting. When his played for Holland A, i've seen him bat in the higher middle order. So generally played as front line batsmen, with his keeping a bonus.

Considering Smits the captain now i can't see him getting dropped until he retires. Not sure if its a short term move or long term. Hopefully RTD or something is in line for role, but is just missing this match.

Does anyone know what would happen if (hypothetically) South Africa came calling for ten Doeschate's talents? I think he'd be useful addition to the South African ODI middle order (don't let him bowl though)... He'd be a better bet in an ODI than Ashwell Prince or Boeta Dippenaar to my mind, and as he's South African born, would he need to serve a qualification period to be eligible for the Yarpies?

Looking at the two matches so far, Holland look like they still have some major issues with their bowling. The lack of front line spinner seems to have hurt them. Canada seem to keep producing (recriuting) those type of players that are there and there abouts. No real superstars in their side anymore, but they seem to be good enough to match most sides.

Rain stuffed up the other match, lucky for Scotland there is a change in the point system. But this no result might hurt at the back end of the comp. UAE once again show they have imported well Saqib Ali, another player who is just below Pakistan FC level. Really need to start developing their own talent soon though. As these type of players will make you competive but wont win you games anymore.

Since he has played for the Netherlands I am pretty sure he'd need to serve a qualification period before becoming eligible for South Africa again. Boeta Dippenaar is a pretty decent ODI batsman, even if he scores slower than average.

Pretty sure he would have to re-qualify under the new rules. Don' t think you can do Gavin Hamilton anymore, since Holland have ODI status now. However i think if say UAE imported a talent Pakistani player, they could call him back if they wanted, as they don't have ODI status.

I am probably wrong however.
