Given it's pretty standard for the weather in England to be rubbish this time of year, I do wonder why they don't schedule games at venues with lights in daytime ODI hours, and if there's rain around they can then play on into D/N hours. Mind you, this is cricket, where you can have rain around for a day and a half and the players will still have a lunch break.

I know it would make for a potentially loonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg day/ night, but given the crap climate and the fact the grounds all drain really well, you'd be a lot bigger chance of getting a result.

And let's be honest, who doesn't want a result late into the evening?
The venues do have lights. There are 3 grounds and two of them are even hosting a day night match each.

It's just that if it's a day game, they won't drag it into a day night game..in case of poor weather.

The full match thing is rubbish, rain 'saving' a team is always dire.

At least AU had a fighting chance against NZ, it was probably a 10-20% chance at coming back but they were still in it, Bangers were 0.05%.
Yup, this is probably fair. Australia had more chance of winning that match vs.NZ than losing from that position vs. Bangers.

That said, even Smith himself in the post-match (v NZ) suggested Aust were definitely on the backfoot and were perhaps a little lucky to share the points.

NZ were definitely ahead, but scoring ~120 odd runs in 11 overs with 7 wickets in hand is hardly implausible, if challenging. Taking 9 wickets in 4 overs, though, is definitely implausible.

If NZ defeat England and Banga, Australia can not qualify, regardless of what they do (and Aus-Eng takes place after both of NZ games)
oh yeah, I suppose Australia could get ahead of England on NRR, forgot about them, but it still matters a fair deal anyway
Nah in that case Aust would have 4 points and Eng only 2 so Aust and Nz go through. Aust win over England would see them definitely going through. Another washout will bring NRR in to the equation

And even that case was after the score was already rain-affected. Give them 45 overs to chase 290 in similar conditions to the first innings and they would have had a great chance.
