Cracking effort by the Krauts to keep England waiting. Every day, every session, every hour, every minute... The pressure grows to be the first home gold medallist.

Hoping it's Andy Murray, last day. Delicious irony.

Anyone know if this park will be used for the individual showjumping?

I really want Lamaze to get back to back golds in that.

The only real chance we have had so far was the road race cycling, didn't happen. Tomorrow we will get a few anyway so you can stop worrying. Soon be above you crims in the medals table and will stay there.

British Eventing team is stacked tbh. Mary King, William Fox-Pitt, Kristina Cook, Nicola Wilson and even Zara Phillips is a good team.

This was your one chance in the horses though. As long as the Canadian keeps the showjumping out of the hands of Europe and the States I'm happy.

Germany were favourites for team gold though so not like silver is a failure.

If we were to list our best gold medal prospects then the team eventing wouldn't have made the top 20.

I would say we have 3 rowing chances, 4 or 5 track cycling and 3 or 4 sailing events that would be clearly ahead of our chances of winning the Equestrian events.

Anyway it was nice to see a minnow step up for a change. The course is simplified for them so its good to see Japan getting started. Some of their riders are plainly not ready for a course like Badminton but they've got the horsepower below them to get somewhere. They're going to get offers for those horses but they need to hang on to them.

The rest can gagf with the exception of the South African. 14 year old kids on ponies jump 1.25m at Grand Prix level so to see some of the demolition early on from some minnows was really poor. Yes there will always be rails and time faults but there was a mix of stuffed horses and riders operating in lalaland not keeping balance or seeing a stride. There was plenty of space on that track, certainly more than the average kiwi domestic three star eventer gets to work with sometimes and it was dry so no excuses.

It's good to see Sweden back on the world stage in eventing as well.

I rewatched the end of the cross country today and I think Nicholson has been the best of our riders and one of the best all event. How he and Fox-Pitt haven't won an individual gold yet I'll never know. Jung was all class as well. Mary King and Imperial Cavalier were almost taking the piss with their disdain for the course and Todd rode like a stereotypical kiwi: fast.

Flem, without wanting to offend you, do you have gender identity issues? Equestrian and all.. Come on mate.

Yeah some of the countries involved wouldn't get a look in in an ordinary event as they aren't at the correct level. I guess though that it is the same in many sports at Olympics though as you could have about 5 or 6 Jamaicans in the sprinting on the track that would all thrash any European.

Burgey I am with Flem, to be honest as it is always so tight with so many top riders and horses it is always so unpredictable and tight. Probably the one sport at the Olympics that keeps you on the edge of your seat for ages at the climax as so much can and does happen. Most sports at olympics are between 2 or 3 only but any one of about 20-30 could be the winner in the individual and there were about 6 teams in with a great chance in the team but Germany were favourites and did win anyway.

Nah. Germany are no where near dominant. if anything we all got lucky with the US and Australia deciding to collectively shunt it and the French were French.

Watching this has really brought it home how much Europe is moving into specialist showjumping and dressage. In New Zealand showjumping is taking over as well. We will be medal contenders in my generation. Horse of the Year pulls in several thousand spectators at ring one alone, which is more than most non-rugby sports can boast.

Eventing numbers have plummeted since the 90s though. :/

Very original Burgey.;)

When the European coaches came to NZ in the 80s looking for work they came with the idea women couldn't train horses and riding was a mans sport. The culture shock was great, if a tad pathetic.

I honestly don't see how Rugby and all its off shoots like League which involve groping men are manly yet galloping an animal over a brick wall is a girls sport.

And Burgey, kids have killed themselves over the bullying, or landed themselves in trouble for hitting bullies or using the 500kg animal as a weapon. You're not original so its not very funny. Just a tip.

Oh ffs. I knew after I typed it that would be the reaction, be it from yoou or someone else. I'd have hoped after I'd known you on here for as long as it's been you might have realised I was hardly being serious. But anyway I apologise if I offended you. If its your hobby horse (pun intended) fine.

Ftr mate, don't come the sanctimony though. "Kids have killed themselves" - ffs kids have sadly killed themselves over a **** load of things mate, probably including any number of the things you've probably had a laugh over on this forum or elsewhere. So get off the high horse (another pun intended) in that regard.

Yeah yeah yeah had a big reply to this but cbf. suffice to say I know you weren't being serious, and usually I let it go despite people who are playing your attitude with a serious face being one of the few things that really piss me off, but really, is that the best you can do?

"hurr hurr ur gay/a girl" is cricsim gimp standard ffs. Rego is more creative*.

*i cant verify this

No I could do a lot better, but it's late; I didn't mean it to start with; and I've got a bloody toothache which has required me to be on ridiculous pain killers which make me think I can do a decent gymnastics floor routine ATM

I saw that movie with the safe search off...

How did you get interested in equestrian stuff anyway? Are you from a rural background?
