Cricket Web Win Series

In one of the most one sided matches in U/19 history, the boys from Cricket Web sealed the youth test series against South Africa, by demolishing their opponents by an innings and 219 runs.

Andy Cameron's heart sunk as his South African counter part won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that seemed to have nothing in it for the bowlers. 45.2 overs, 94 runs and 10 wickets later, it appeared it was the perfect toss to lose.

An amazing spell of seam bowling by out of form Nick Hancock, with figures of 5 for 17 from 13.2 overs, ripped the hearts out of the South African XI.

The CW team replied with a massive 474 all out, with young Alexander going all over the park at just over 5 an over. Matt Currie was the most impressive, with Nitin Dravid not far behind, with an outstanding 125 from number 7. Alexander at one point was going at over 10 an over, as Luff, Malthus-Howell and Scott took him to the cleaners early on.

Matt Currie's patient innings lasted 275 balls, and showed he has a head on him well past his years.

The South African's then batted for the match .... without success, coming up 219 runs short from only posting another 161. Once again their batsmen were dominated by the CW bowlers, including Currie again with 4 wickets, and it appears they have a lot to work on if they are to save face in the last of the youth tests.

Man of the Match : Matt Currie [ 125 (275), 1-3 (3) & 4-41 (16) ]

Well done guys on a very comprehensive effort to win the series. Its great to see the younger members perform. But its also nice that guys like Hancock and Currie are playing to their potential. Lets go for a clean sweep in the next match.

EDIT: Match Archives updated and Tour of Asia announced

Very glad I got those runs and wickets.
Well done CW. I'm impressed with the young talent on display here, and especially with the management committee, which has been great.

Cricket Web Smash Disgraceful South Africa

The Cricket Web under 19 team finished up a clean sweep of Africa as they further demoralised the young South Africans by an innings and 267 runs.

South Africa won the toss and batted... poorly. An absolute disgraceful performance only brought about 49 first innings runs, with the CW bowlers being absoultely dominant. Kev Goughy and Andy Cameron steam rolled through the South African top order taking 2 and 3 wickets respectively, then enter Nick Hancock.

Hancock bowled 3.5 overs and claimed 5 for 4, including a hat-trick to finish the innings.

With the South Africans missing their number one bat, Edgar, through a mystery stomach virus and being skittled for less than 50 they went out to field with their heads down ... and it showed.
Another 400+ innings by the Webbers embarrassed the Africans further, as Luff, Ritchie, Dwyer and Burke slammed on the runs. Zac Ritchie got a century at better than a run a ball.

Unfortunately for Manju Reddlapalli he was unable to take part in the match having strained a hamstring the net session the afternoon before the match. Matt Currie stepped in from 12th man to take his place.

The South Africans, with well over 300 deficit, batted a second time and only managed to scrape together a meger 107. Goughy and Cameron ran through them again, losing the match, and the series, in terrible fashion. South Africa's poor world cup showing continued through, apparently.

Man of the Match : Zac Ritchie [ 124 (116) & 1 for 12 (9) ]

Have to say that the opposition were pretty poor, which makes the tour of Asia even more intriguing because I think the standard will be a lot higher. Personally I'm delighted with the century and the wicket aswell, good to be striking at more than 100 and I thought my economy rate was good aswell.

Good tour for us youngsters so far, four centures and three 5'fers. Excellent work by everyone involved really, I don't think too many people will be dissatisfied with their performances.
