The whole "Anderson wouldn't have made the Australian regularly" isn't actually as dumb as it sounds though.

Of course it completely ignores that if Anderson had grown up playing in Australia his game would have adapted, and in no way should it be used as a serious judgement of him as a bowler.

But what stephen says is in essence correct. If you magically transplant mid-career Anderson to Australia he might not be a regular, especially at home. You can't really say that about a lot of other great bowlers. Magically transplant McGrath to England and he does just as well, maybe even better.

I suppose if you want to ignore that crucial bit then yes. Probably about as relevant as saying Steve Smith would've never played test cricket if he was born and raised in China though.

I mean you're right, but that is a completely horrible point to ignore. Like it should make the argument an irrelevant one.

whether it's irrelevant or not depends on the context with which it is being used. If that's all stephen is saying, and he's not using it to justify something ridiculous like "Anderson is no better than Hilfenhaus", then he's not wrong at all.

Probably about as relevant as saying Steve Smith would've never played test cricket if he was born and raised in China though.
which would be a perfectly reasonable statement I guess

Who was the last ATG fast bowler from England? Can't remember anyone in the recent past. Not fair to compare Mcgrath to Anderson because its not a like for like comparison.
